  • This year, 1.4 million emergency food parcels were distributed to people in need over 6 months, with over half a million going to children, according to figures released by @Trussell. The growing demand underscores the urgent need for food to be recognised as a human right in UK law, alongside housing, healthcare, and education. Such a move would hold governments accountable for addressing food insecurity with long-term policies. By the end of December, we're expecting to have provided a total of 250,000 meals over the course of this year at Hackney Foodbank. Please support us if you can. #trussell #endfoodpoverty #guaranteeouressentials

  • Another day, another grim story in the media. Demand for our foodbank is through the roof. By the end of the year we will have provided the equivalent to more than a quarter of a million meals to people experiencing hardship. Here in Hackney it's much worse: demand this winter is 70% higher than last winter. Universal Credit isn't enough to cover the basics, rent costs are high, too many people aren't earning London Living Wage, food and fuel costs have risen in recent years. It's a perfect, awful storm and we echo calls for the UK Government to take action on hardship. Until things improve, please ensure no-one in the community goes hungry by making a donation to our food bank. We are all in this together. #trussell #endfoodpoverty #guaranteeouressentials https://buff.ly/3JufhGa

  • As the temperatures plunge, so demand for Hackney Foodbank continues to rise - among our visitors are older people who struggle to keep warm and who, without support, would go hungry. This week our caseworker has been helping with pension credit applications, providing fuel vouchers to hep visitors keep warm and we've been applying for grants for electric blankets. And of course we give food to those who would otherwise go hungry.

  • Day 19 of Reverse Advent and our most needed item is baked beans! Doesn't need to be a big brand name - own brands just as fabulous. You can drop your box of advent donations to us at the Wally Foster Community Centre in Homerton Road or order donations via our online shop. ttps://buff.ly/49SnhLN
