About us
We are an independent charitable organisation working to build a healthier UK. Health is our most precious asset. Good health enables us to live happy, fulfilling lives, fuels our prosperity and helps build a stronger society. Yet good health remains out of reach for too many people in the UK and services are struggling to provide access to timely, high-quality care. It doesn’t have to be like this. Our mission is to help build a healthier UK by: 1. improving people’s health and reducing inequalities 2. supporting radical innovation and improvement in health and care services 3. providing evidence and analysis to improve health and care policy. We’ll achieve this by producing research and analysis, shaping policy and practice, building skills, knowledge and capacity, and acting as a catalyst for change. Everyone has a stake and a part to play in improving our health. By working together, we can build a healthier UK.

Our latest survey completed with Ipsos UK tracking the UK public’s views on the NHS and social care shows the NHS/health care is the UK public’s top priority for extra spending by a substantial margin. Results also show how opinion changes amongst respondents with different voting intentions. The view that the NHS/health care should be prioritised to receive more public spending in the future above other areas is shared among those voting for all but one of the main parties. 🎉 New The Health Foundation publication! 🎉 https://lnkd.in/gWHUAdpW ➡With the NHS under unprecedented pressure, there is a strong focus on the potential for technology to support NHS staff and free up time. But our research shows that whether these benefits are realised will depend on how tech is implemented and used. ➡Over the last two years, the Health Foundation has conducted research into the potential for technology to free up time. Our analysis draws on research conducted with The Evidence Centre and with eight professional bodies. ➡Our latest research finds that while in some cases technologies can successfully free up staff time, on other occasions they fail to do so—or even add to workloads. Why? It comes down to how the tech is implemented and used. ➡To truly realise the benefits of technology, we need to focus on ensuring it is implemented and used well—not just on procurement. The 10-Year Health Plan presents an opportunity to improve on previous tech programmes by shifting the focus from procurement to implementation and optimisation. ➡ Specifically, we believe the Plan should: · Focus on funding the ‘change’, not just the tech · Involve staff and patients in design and development of tech · Put effort into optimising existing technologies rather than just looking for new tech. 📰Read our latest analysis piece here: https://lnkd.in/gWHUAdpW 📰Read our previous publications on the topic here: https://lnkd.in/gqAiy22t https://lnkd.in/gX_PpAuw https://lnkd.in/gydNX-qK Ellen Coughlan Tim Horton

Since 2021, we have completed a survey with Ipsos UK tracking the UK public’s views on the NHS and social care every six months. The latest survey (conducted between 21 and 27 November 2024) is the first under the new Labour government. Headline findings: ➡️ For the first time in our polling series, the public’s top priority for the NHS is making it easier to get appointments at GP practices (38%). ➡️ Across the NHS and social care, the public is less negative and more optimistic about the performance of services than under the previous government, though perceptions are still largely negative overall. ➡️ The majority of the English public is unaware of the government’s proposals for a National Care Service (76% unaware) and 10-Year Health Plan (73%). ➡️ The NHS/health care is the public’s top priority for extra public spending by a substantial margin. ➡️ Whilst Labour won a landslide election victory, the public mood on the NHS and care is more 'wait and see' than 'things can only get better'. NEW: With the NHS under unprecedented pressure, there is a strong focus on the potential for technology to support NHS staff and free up time. Drawing on our own research and a rapid evidence review by The Evidence Centre, this analysis explores situations where health technologies have had no or negative impact on staff time and investigates why. Our analysis challenges the assumption that the procurement of technology will automatically lead to benefits such as freeing up staff time. These findings highlight several important lessons: - Successful tech implementation requires support – it is critical that policymakers and system leaders fund ‘the change’ not just ‘the tech’. - Design and development of tech implementation requires consultation with staff and patients. - Realising the benefits of technology takes time. Most of the technologies likely to have an impact over the next few years, are already in use in the NHS. Read the full analysis ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eHiPJpfF
