🎧 In this new episode of the Health Innovation Podcast, we’re delighted to be joined by Prof. Bola Owolabi, MRCGP MFPH(Hon), FRSPH Director of the National Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Programme at NHS England. Bola joins Richard Stubbs, Chair of the Network and Chief Executive at Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber, to discuss what we actually mean when we talk about health inequalities and how the Core20Plus5 approach is helping to tackle this complex issue. They also shine a light on some of the brilliant work which is making a difference and share advice for innovators who want to help. “It’s true that the way we’re going to really make progress and reduce health inequalities is for it to be not a programme...but the way we do business. It needs to be business as usual.” Listen to the episode here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eyQSy7wc

🚀 Today marks the publication of the Innovation Ecosystem Programme report, commissioned by NHS England and led by Roland Sinker, CEO of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It provides a practical blueprint for streamlining innovation pathways and enabling the NHS to adopt and scale HealthTech effectively. ABHI's Peter Ellingworth had the great privilege of co-chairing the 'Preparing for the NHS of Tomorrow' workstream alongside Dr Kristin Anne Rutter, focusing on the enablers required for access and adoption of innovation. This report sets out clear priorities, from aligning funding and incentives to building workforce capacity and sharing best practices. Together, these actions can ensure HealthTech realises its full potential for patients, the NHS, and the economy. We look forward to supporting the implementation of this work, not least through our ongoing engagement with the Health Innovation Network as we align with the NHS 10-Year Health Plan. 📣 We welcome the Innovation Ecosystem Programme recommendations, published today. The report rightly highlights the need for a focus on clearly defined national health innovation priorities, incentivising the partnership working required to deliver innovation, and improved alignment and shared accountability for innovation adoption performance. Our decade’s experience of innovating in the NHS has demonstrated that innovation is a team sport, and it works best when all the necessary players are enabled to play their specific, but coordinated, roles as the examples laid out in this report highlight. The NHS Innovation Ecosystem Programme report is now available. The report focusses on how the NHS can work with wider health innovation and research partner organisations to better enable research, innovation development, and the adoption and spread of innovation in the NHS. Its recommendations focus on setting clear national priorities and funding, standardising innovation processes and guidance to give more support for local leaders, building workforce capabilities and sharing best practices across the system. The report describes a pipeline of innovations emerging that could address many of the NHS challenges and enable big shifts to prevention, personalisation and the workforce of the future. However, to realise the full potential of technology it urges urgent action to grow and build effective partnership between the NHS and suppliers so that patients and service users’ needs are met now and into the future. Last week, we were delighted to partner with AstraZeneca, NHS Confederation and The King's Fund for an event exploring Long Term Conditions. Over the course of two days, experts from across the NHS, academia and industry collaborated to identify the opportunities and strategies to improve the lives of patients with Long Term Conditions over the next decade. It was great to explore evidenced-based solutions to some of the biggest challenges in Long Term Conditions care and to further explore the barriers in this area. Thanks to all who joined us.

Huge congratulations to Health Innovation East for their HSJ Award win 👏
We are delighted to announce that Health Innovation East and East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) have won the Digitising Patient Care Award at the 2024 HSJ Awards for their work supporting the adoption of Neu Health. Neu Health are working to revolutionise care for people with Parkinson’s Disease. The Neu Platform combines a smart-phone app empowering patients and carers and feeds into a clinician dashboard which utilises AI and machine learning algorithms to provide insights for monitoring and managing Parkinson's disease. At ESNEFT, the Neu Platform innovation has: ◾ Improved clinic efficiency in over 90% of consultations, reducing appointment times by an average of 6 minutes, ◾ Led to care changes for 50% of patients, enhancing symptom management, ◾ Increased patients' knowledge and confidence in managing their condition, ◾ Reduced in-person visits through remote monitoring, resulting in annual savings of £2,000 per patient, ◾ Achieved 78.4% patient uptake with over 600 hours of at-home testing. The partnership was facilitated by Health Innovation East and driven by adopters and advocates, clinicians and patients at ESNEFT. The collaboration demonstrates how digitising patient care can reshape healthcare delivery, providing better outcomes for patients and staff across the NHS. We would like to thank our partners, team members, and the patients who have supported us throughout this project. Together, we are improving care for people with Parkinson's disease.
