As #COP29 draws to a close, our Net Zero Lead, Pete Waddingham, discusses in this blog how we’re supporting a #NetZeroNHS through innovation, and its potential to reduce demand. Although we might focus on the delivery of a Net Zero NHS meaning a healthier planet, cutting carbon emissions will also mean a healthier population – as it has the potential to prevent long-term conditions, therefore reducing demand in our healthcare system. We recently hosted a parliamentary roundtable, with Policy Connect, discussing the future of Data and Innovation in the NHS. Chaired by James Bethell, we welcomed a keynote speech from Baroness Gillian Merron, who recognised the Network's “brilliant work” and our role in helping others to work together to take the NHS out of analogue into the digital, from hospital to home and from sickness to prevention. The roundtable concluded the need for a multi-faceted and joined-up approach to healthcare innovation in the NHS, with an emphasis on long-term investment, skills development, better data sharing, and collaboration.
