As we look back over the last twelve months, we are so proud of what has been achieved by The Hg Foundation and our partners: 🤝 9 substantial new partnerships across 4 countries 🤝 re-grants to 3 projects based on successful first phases 🤝 joint initiatives with 8 software companies 🤝 Our first open funding round All of this puts us well on our way to our goal of supporting 100,000 high quality opportunities along the tech talent pipeline by 2027. We want to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of people who make the work possible – in our non-profit partners, our co-funders, in the Hg family, our trustees and of course the Foundation team itself. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year. With partners including Bain’s Social Impact Practice, The Foundation was involved with the design and first major trial of STEM teachers’ use of ChatGPT in schools in England. The findings from the research project, led by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), found that Teachers using ChatGPT, alongside a guide to support them to use it effectively, reduced their lesson planning time by 31 per cent. Many thanks to Tim Harrison for his support on the project. The free guide is available at https://shorturl.at/4vt0k Further information: https://shorturl.at/NGtkI
A new randomised controlled trial has found that Teachers using ChatGPT can reduce their lesson planning time by over 30%. The evaluation, which involved 259 Year 7 and Year 8 Science teachers in 68 secondary teachers across England and was commissioned by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and The Hg Foundation, found that a typical teacher in the non-GenAI group spent 81.5 minutes per week preparing lessons and resources for Year 7 and Year 8 science lessons. However, teachers in the ChatGPT group spent around 56.2 minutes per week, saving 25.3 minutes per week on average. Learn more about the research at https://bit.ly/49A2KfZ
