  • 📣 sᴍᴀʟʟ ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss sʜᴏᴜᴛ-ᴏᴜᴛ # 𝟷𝟸: sᴘᴇʏsɪᴅᴇ ᴛᴏᴜʀs 📣 Though it’s long been a frustration that my hometown of Aberdeen has never fully promoted itself as a tourist destination, there has been a shift in recent years with the opening of the South Harbour and many now visiting the likes of ourselves and Fierce Beer before heading to the many distilleries and breweries dotted around Aberdeenshire and Moray. A recent sign up to The House of Botanicals Member’s Club, Michelle Myron runs Speyside Tours, offering a host of guided experiences in the region covering Dufftown distillery walks, golf, gin schools, foraging and everything else in between. I have in fact pitched the idea of taking a group from our Member’s Club through to Speyside for the day or weekend next year so if you’d be keen to join us… Speyside Tours Dufftown Scotland AB55 4AR Web: www.speysidetours.co.uk #TheHouseOfBotanicals #SmallBusinessShoutOut

  • 📣 sᴍᴀʟʟ ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss sʜᴏᴜᴛ-ᴏᴜᴛ #11: ᴠɪᴛɪᴠɪɴɪᴄᴏʟᴀ ғᴀɴɢᴀʀᴇɢɢɪ 📣 Having worked in the food and drink industry for 24 years I’m now in the position that people respect and trust my opinion when it comes to suggesting cocktails, food pairings, or even a bar you should visit. It’s with this in mind that we’ve introduced the ’𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴’ section of our webshop, launching last week with the introduction of The Lovers Rum and being further boosted today by the delivery of a truly stunning sparkling wine all the way from Italy. Founded in 2005 by Giuseppe Fangareggi, the winery is a fourth-generation family business producing since the 1800’s. Today, Giuseppe’s son Matteo, runs the farm along with his mother, Margherita, and his uncle, Roberto. Now available from The House of Botanicals 🍾, their delicious Bragher (𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 “𝘨𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘱” 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵) is a sparkling white wine produced using the Charmat method in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. With fresh aromatics of green apple, lemon zest and grapefruit, the wine is pleasantly dry with sustained freshness, balanced by rich and persistent bubbles. For lovers of Champagne and Cremant, you really want to get this in your life. • sᴍᴀʟʟ ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss sʜᴏᴜᴛ-ᴏᴜᴛ #𝟷𝟶 On Friday afternoon The House of Botanicals was visited by someone that works directly across the road from our building on Palmerston Road. ”𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦,” she said. It is this mindset that drives my weekly shout-out, hoping to spread awareness of other independents, whilst also encouraging us all to look around a little more for what’s on our doorsteps. Opened in July 2020, Refillosophy is an eco-friendly refillery that specialises in the growing shift toward encouraging reuse, nullifying plastic, fostering community and supporting local. The shop houses everything from milk to bread, dried foods to fresh fruit, cleaning products to cosmetics, and everything else in between; it really is a treasure trove that’ll help you reduce recycling and waste at home. Closed on a Monday the shop opens from 10am on Tuesdays and 12noon on a Sunday, and is just a few minutes walk from Union Street in the west end of Aberdeen. • As a heritage business Pietro Nicola is an exploration of our family history, taking its name from our grandmother Dora Pietro Nicola Casella and our great grandfather Pietro; although its connections go deeper than that with Nocino having its roots in North Scotland, our coffee spirit sharing its name with Margaux 🐾, and the bottle artwork having been drawn by the same artist that worked on our Book of Bitters published in 2017. The perfect showcase for our third brand is our monthly Art of the Aperitivo hours, inspired by the traditional Italian aperitivo hour. For lovers of drinks like the Negroni, Spritz and Americano, this session is for you! https://lnkd.in/eCvRGRji #TheHouseOfBotanicals #PietroNicola

  • sᴍᴀʟʟ ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss sʜᴏᴜᴛ-ᴏᴜᴛ #9 Those of a certain vintage will recall this corner of George Street once housing the famous Haddows Off Licence, a popular stop-off for many grabbing drinks on their way into, or home from, town through the 80s and 90s. Originally set-up across the road on George Street by its owner Andy Tough, The 33rd Barbershop moved to their larger premises in mid-2017 and has since been the home of many of Aberdeen’s finest young barbers; they’ve even managed to make my hair look good over the years! Whilst the shop can occasionally take walk-ins, booking is preferable and highly recommended, with their 33rd Barbershop app an absolute delight for checking availability and booking. In fact, you’ll find me there at 10am tomorrow before The House of Botanicals opens around 11:30. • ɴᴏʀᴍᴀʟɪsᴇ ʀᴇᴜsᴇ ♻️ Greenwashing is rife in the business world right now with many talking a good game but doing very little in reality, whilst at the same time offering few solutions to the problems we face. So here’s one… Next time you finish that non-recyclable ceramic bottle of booze don’t throw it in the trash, refill it with better gin. Next time you finish that product you bought because the brand spent their budget on a beautiful custom bottle design instead of making quality liquid, refill it with better gin. Next time you finish a bottle of the world’s finest Old Tom Gin, refill it with the same stunning drop. ✌🏽❤️ Just let us know if you need a label, we’ll sort that for you as well. https://lnkd.in/eqkUJdpw #TheHouseOfBotanicals #PouchRefills

  • ʟɪᴍᴏɴᴄᴇʟʟᴏ… ᴏᴜʀ ᴡᴀʏ 🍋 We believe it’s important to respect the Protected Geographical Indication (𝘗𝘎𝘐) that covers Limoncello by only using Sfusato lemons from the Amalfi coast, infusing for a period longer than 36hours, bottling above 25%abv, and using no artificial colourings emulsifiers or stabilisers, but at the same time think there’s a better way of doing things… The addition of natural lemon balm introduces another layer of lemon flavour, coupled with tannins that make the spirit drier and clean in the mouth, whilst sweetening with a lemon oleo to ensure lemon is added at every stage of production. Finest Limoncello in the world? We think so, and you will too. #PietroNicola #Limoncello #TheHouseOfBotanicals

  • sᴍᴀʟʟ ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss sʜᴏᴜᴛ-ᴏᴜᴛ #𝟾 "𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘺𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘺, 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘨." The former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland midfielder, Roy Keane, has gone viral this morning for the above quote during a conversation about football player's loyalty around the time of contract negotiations, and it perfectly set-up today's shout out. Anyone that knows The House of Botanicals (Aberdeen) will appreciate our love for dogs is right up there with our love for the Martinez, with our very own Margaux a fixture of all that we do; demonstrated via our barrel-rested coffee amaro that shares her name. Margaux too has a love for a number of things such as, "𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘴", "𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘣", "𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘦𝘴", and "𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘨𝘨𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱", aka Decidedly Dogs. Situated on the corner of Holburn Street and Willowbank Road, Decidedly is a dog lover's dream with a range of quality foods, toys, harnesses, collars, beds, and everything else in between. Most importantly, the owner Michelle will make you and your dog feel right at home, to the point that Margaux will drag us through their doors if she catches sight of it or hears the words, "𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘨𝘨𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱". • sᴍᴀʟʟ ʙᴜsɪɴᴇss sʜᴏᴜᴛ-ᴏᴜᴛ #𝟽 Before 2009, the typical route for bartenders in the UK looking to pursue a prolonged career in bartending and it’s related industries was to move into consulting, open their own venue, or take on a brand ambassador or sales representative role for an existing drinks business. That all changed toward the end of 2009 with the launch of the first of our three brands, Dr. Adam’s Cocktail Bitters, opening a new path for career bartenders… We do our utmost to support those that have followed and you’ll regularly find their offerings in our on-site tasting room, however in the coming months we’ll be taking that to a new level by hosting other brands in our tasting room, starting with The Lover’s Rum on Saturday 16th November 2024*. Hailing from Argentina though now based out of Malaga, David Cordoba will be showcasing his portfolio via the Lover’s Rum, La Forza and brand new Stellar variants. Affectionately known around the world as Mr. Daiquiri, as a former bartender at Bramble in Edinburgh, Global Brand Ambassador for Bacardi, and Portfolio Director at Proof Drinks in Singapore, David is one of the leading bartenders to emerge from Latin America, so it’s an honour to have him join us. We’ll also be adding his wares to our shop offering in time for the festive season.
