Conservation officer Aidan Neary was in London this weekend for the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI)'s annual conference and exhibition at the Natural History Museum. He gave a flash talk to over 100 delegates on the LoveLincsPlants project, which was created to preserve Lincolnshire's valuable botanical heritage, inspire and train future botanists, and build a contemporary herbarium (plant archive) for Lincolnshire. Our latest #WilderLincolnshire podcast comes from Goslings Corner Wood - an ancient limewood in the heart of Lincolnshire. This nature reserve holds a special significance for some rare species, and people too. Melvyn Prior and Matthew Capper met our SW Lincs Warden, Sophie, at the wood to find out more. Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏 🍏 🏆
Doing all I can to help our young people have the knowledge, skills and experiences to enable them to make the best choices for their next step. Working with employers to bridge gap between education and employment.
Wooooo hoooo. Congratulations Micronclean 🏆I was honoured to be at the prestigious award ceremony held at Kensington Palace yesterday to be part of the team involved in creating Micronclean’s CLEAN Award challenge for schools. Together with Sophie Harris and Kirstie Hunter from Micronclean, Vicki Bush from Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, we created a challenge focussing on reducing plastics …… and it won Gold 🏆 at the Green Apple Awards. Such an amazing accolade and something I am proud to have been part of. Such a good example of how collaboration can create incredible opportunities for young people. Now to start planning next year’s challenge 😄. Greater Lincolnshire LEP Lee Douglas Alex Nightingale Robin MacNeill

A very exciting discovery at Duke's Covert for our South-West Lincolnshire Warden, Sophie, who was low on the ground working when she caught sight of this well hidden harvest mouse nest. This is a first record of this species on the nature reserve. The time of year, and the fact that the long grasses used to make the nest are now brown and the entry hole is visible, mean it is vacant. Harvest mice build several fresh grass nests throughout a season.

We have some wonderful supporters who are helping nature recover across Lincolnshire. Thanks to YOU. Development Ltd, 1,600 wildflowers have been planted in the meadows at Castle Bytham that we bought in 2019 - boosting the floristic diversity and helping Lincolnshire get a little bit wilder.
It was good to read back through this story of our collaboration with the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. A percentage of our income is donated to this charity, this year we were also able to purchase 1,600 wildflowers including cowslip, bird's-foot trefoil, yellow rattle, ladies bedstraw and kidney vetch. The flowers were planted in Bottleneck and Jackson's Meadows in Castle Bytham, South Lincolnshire in just two hours on a sunny day in May. Following from this activity, a local plant nursery Alpha Plants Ltd in Pinchbeck donated a further 2,700 wildflower plug plants, for grassland restoration across several nature reserves. We look forward to supporting The Wildlife Trusts in future years to help kickstart the expansion of grassland restoration, and other projects. #nature #environment #CSR Matthew Capper

Richard Chadd was always keen to encourage the next generation of freshwater ecologists so it's fitting that his collection of books is being auctioned in support of student bursaries.
We are most grateful to the family of Richard Chadd for the generous donation of his freshwater ecology book collection. The proceeds from the auction will provide funds towards student bursaries. Richard was an incredibly influential figure in the world of freshwater. A supportive and inspiring FBA Board Member and FBA News Editor, he was a dedicated champion for invertebrate monitoring and assessment, and a much-loved colleague. The Richard Chadd Ecology Book Auction is for 1 week only and starts at 6pm on Sunday 3rd November, ending at 6pm on Sunday 10th November. There are over 200 freshwater ecology books in this extensive collection. 📚You can view and bid on the books here: https://lnkd.in/eBQfpBb8 #freshwaterscience #freshwaterecology #freshwaterbiology #ecology #bookauction Brathay Trust Buglife Environment Agency Institute Of Fisheries Management JNCC Natural England UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)
