Bring Female Film Directors to the Forefront Despite standout films like Babygirl and The Substance, the numbers reveal a harsh truth: women directed just 16% of the top 250 grossing movies in 2024, unchanged from 2023. Among the top 100 films, female directors dropped to 11%, with women of color making up only 5.3% of directors. These stats highlight a persistent gender disparity in Hollywood, where visibility for a few doesn’t translate into opportunities for many. What an incredible Day 2 it was at FOCUS 2024! From industry trends to deep dives into the technical aspects of filmmaking, the sessions were full of inspiration. We explored the future of screen production, with insights on emerging markets and how AI is reshaping entertainment. As well as celebrated the artistry of directors and composers, like Robin Carolan’s work on Nosferatu, and tackled essential topics like VFX tax relief and location management. Additionally, we explored The Art of Adaptation: Crafting Conclave for the Big Screen, diving into the creative process behind transforming a captivating story into a cinematic masterpiece. We also had the opportunity to have The Rings of Power – A UK Location Filming Masterclass, gaining insight into the intricacies of filming on location in the UK for such a monumental production.
