✨ Applications are open for the Grace Chisholm Young Fellowship. This fellowship, named after Grace Chisholm Young, will give an endorsement of the holder's status as a mathematician so that a break in formal employment should not prevent them from resuming a career as a mathematician at a later stage. The Society offers one fellowship each year to a mathematician who needs support when their mathematical career is interrupted by family responsibilities, relocation of a partner, or other similar circumstances, making possible some continuous mathematical activity, enabling the fellow to be in a position to apply for posts when circumstances allow. Deadline: 28 February 2025 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eHBpqzpx

Our friends at Newton Gateway to Mathematics are hosting a great day-long event about mathematics and data science communication at Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences on Thursday 21 November. Climate change, artificial intelligence, disease modelling and public health – these are just a few of the societal issues that mathematical and data sciences are key to understanding and addressing. It is vital that those outside the research community – including policy makers, mainstream media, and the wider public – are informed about advances in these areas and are part of the discussions about such research. And researchers need professional help to communicate their research and engage with concerns from these wider audiences. This one-day event will explore evidence for effectively communicating research in mathematical and data science to non-experts. Speakers come from a range of fields, including economics, government, health, neuroscience, as well as mathematics and data science. The event is organised by the Mathsci-comm network in collaboration with the Newton Gateway to Mathematics. It is supported by the Academy for Mathematical Sciences and the Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences. The full programme is now online, registration is open and all are welcome 👇
