This week is National Grief Awareness Week. Managing grief after baby loss or any type of loss can be hard and its important that people find their new normal. Workplaces tend to have a lack of support for staff when they lose someone near and dear, we hear it from our bereaving parents all the time. About us
It is a very sad fact that an average of 15 babies die every day within their first four weeks of life, and whilst we work to reduce the number of baby deaths, we also want to ensure that measures are in place for families suffering from baby loss so that they are given much needed support and precious time with their angel baby. The Luca Foundation was set up in memory of Luca, who was born sleeping in June 2012. Our first child, our son Luca, was stillborn June 2012. A parent’s worst nightmare is to lose their child. We were beyond devastated, our world had fallen apart. From the moment he died on the Monday inside my womb, on the first day of my maternity leave, to the Thursday when I gave birth to him naturally, everything was a daze. Had we had a cold cuddle cot, we could have stayed with Luca for up to two more days. This would have meant that we could have taken him home and allowed his grandparents to hold him. We would have had time to think a little clearer and I would have taken photos of him in my arms. These are the regrets we now live with. Our promise to Luca, was to keep his name and memory alive. We then added his name to our surname, but I still felt I needed to do more. From our own personal experience we want to ensure that other parents across the UK are given extra time with their babies in these devastating times. We had an amazing time representing our charity at the Institute of Directors (IoD) with ✪ Abid Khan ✪ Chair - IoD British Asian Business Community The night was filled with fantastic fundraising, thanks to raffle prizes donated by San Carlo Restaurant Group in Birmingham with Camelia Cara-Ion , the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Birmingham with Oksana Duvalka and the THE FARMHOUSE COVENTRY LIMITED in Coventry, our venue for the evening. We raised an incredible £998, which will go towards repairing five CuddleCots for the NHS across the country. I'm thrilled with the support we received and the feedback after my speech. Many people were unaware of Cuddlecots and that grief management specialists like me exist, who can help companies support employees dealing with various kinds of loss, including divorce, health issues, and financial difficulties. This opportunity to represent the charity provided by Abid means so much to me. He knows my dedication to supporting bereaved parents and the wider community in workplaces and schools. As always, it was great to many familiar faces and new ones too and thanks to our Ambassador Anita Dinnes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for helping me with raffle ticket sales. It is not common for us to receive a message from a mother who has utilized a CuddleCot during their most difficult time. This message truly resonates with us. An individual who was familiar with my work as the founder Sharon Luca-Chatha of The Luca Foundation, experienced the tragic loss of her infant son and was provided with a CuddleCot that we had repaired. Baby loss is, unfortunately, a common occurrence, and it can deeply affect those we know and care about, including ourselves.
