About us
We are a child protection charity working to stop child sexual abuse before it happens. Our main area of work is with people who pose a risk to children to divert them from causing harm. We also support individuals and families who have been affected by abuse and we help professionals who work with families to create safer environments for children. We’re here for everyone who needs us. We provide training and consultation services on all aspects of child protection, risk management, sexual offending and child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention. We run Stop It Now, which supports people who are either worried about their own sexual thoughts or behaviour towards children, or worried about another adult or young person. Our anonymous helpline and online self-help give practical advice and information to help keep children safe. We run Shore, which a provides a safe space for teenagers worried about their own or a friend’s sexual behaviour. Registered charity no. 1013025. Company limited by guarantee, Registered in England No. 2729957.

Little of the #GroomingGangs discussion has focused on what victims and survivors need, or how to prevent child sexual exploitation and abuse in the first place. Child sexual abuse takes a number of different forms – for example, sexual abuse within the home by an adult family member, sexual abuse by a peer at school, sexual grooming and abuse online by a stranger, and street grooming by a gang. All cause great harm, but each needs a different response as well as different strategies to prevent it. Read our latest blog post from our CEO, Deborah Denis about what we can all do to stop child sexual abuse, before it happens: https://lnkd.in/g2kv88ab #ChildSexualAbusePrevention #PreventableNotInevitable

Really delighted to present a workshop in Valparaiso today on strategic approaches to child sexual abuse prevention. Using the https://lnkd.in/e33TNSaV methodology, we looked at how public health ideas can lead to more strategic ways of tackling online and offline child sexual abuse. Really important messages from the practitioners who participated about the challenges in finding common ground between professionals about language - how different forms of abuse and exploration are described and defined. And universal agreement that interventions working with those who perpetrate sexual harm need developed in Chile.

"X is missing an opportunity and needs to do more to protect children online." Our Innovation Programme Lead, Sarah Smith, spoke to The Telegraph this weekend, to discuss simple solutions, such as warning messages developed by our #ProjectIntercept, to deter people who offend, and signpost them to our anonymous Stop It Now helpline for support to change their harmful or illegal online behaviour." Recent figures from The Independent show a 75% success rate for applicants to be taken off the register, which begs the question - does the system work? Tom Squire, our head of clinical engagement, emphasised that while there is an important acknowledgement that people can change their behaviour, there is "no room for complacency". If you have concerns about child sexual abuse prevention, contact our #StopItNow helpline: https://lnkd.in/d8CdS-A Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/dXMW4i8k
