It takes a special type of person... ...to organise a whole running event, that is 12 hours long and all for charity. However, these people exist and one of those people is Ian Covey (and his wonderful volunteers)! On Sunday, The Marketing Run Club entered a team into "One More Lap" a charity event to raise money to help fund a retreat for families of children battling illness. The event was tough - as many laps as possible around a 0.75 mile pond in 12 hours! The team were amazing. Everyone pushed themselves and the bond we formed was strong. I'm so proud of my team mates: Katie Neal, Simon Turner, James Sandbrook, Jon Ellis, Yousef Majeed. The support from the Sandbrook and Ellis family (Anita Ellis) was a massive bonus! Huge thank you to all the volunteers who made it happen - top event. If you want to support - please do: https://lnkd.in/e72VmkGM See you next year x #themarketingrunclub #friendships #charity #heroes #onemorelap

You might well have discovered the power of compounding when it comes to money, but have you thought about applying the same principle to fitness? We're launching our next challenge, inviting you to see the power of this formula in your running. For the rest of the year, try increasing your mileage by +10% each month. You'll be amazed at how it grows in a sustainable and injury risk reducing way. For example, if you've run 50k total in August, try the following: September 55k October 60.5k November 66.55k December 73.2k In just 4 months you'll have grown your mileage significantly, just by building a little each month. Who's game? Comment below your August mileage and where you'll end up by year end! Note... if your August mileage has been unusually low or high use September as a new benchmark.

Strengthening friendships You'll have heard me talk about The Marketing Run Club on here before and the community that is growing along with the massive support between members. Well, these bonds are getting stronger as we do more events together and get to know each other more and more. On September 15th, a group of 6 from the marketing run club are getting together to do a sponsored 12 hour relay: One More Lap. We need to do as many laps of Stowe Pool as possible within the time. Whilst it will be tiring and hard, I know that the encouragement will be high. Plus, it's all in the name of charity, so what is not to love? At the end of the event, I know that our friendship will be that little bit stronger and I can't wait. (Pic from our last in person MRC in Manchester) For anyone wishing to sponsor, please do, link is here: https://lnkd.in/e72VmkGM

I do weekly a run club with hundreds of people And last night I went to one with 4, but I almost didn’t go because the meeting spot for The Marketing Run Club was an hour out of the city It was only because it’s a small group I felt accountable to go. So I asked Guy, and he kindly gave me a lift. First benefit of a smaller group: people know whether you turn up, so no backing out. The other reason is a bit gooier Because going to new events can feel a bit anonymous or superficial You exchange a sentence each about what you do, pick the 1 thing that’s going the best, and leave with the impression everyone has it sorted apart from you But a smaller group means I actually got to know Jennifer, Guy and Simon (Not rocket science, I know) And on a level which has taken 3-4 runs with people in other groups So the combo of big and small groups is the best (of course!). Some small groups, some huge ones. I personally like having a few deeper conversations, but also meeting lots of new people. It flagged my automatic assumption that a bigger group is always better. So when you’re next considering going to a group thing, try selecting for smaller=better. #running #connection #smallgroup
