Why is it so important that UK nurses feel confident in their knowledge of medical cannabis? As more patients in the UK access cannabis prescriptions from specialist doctors and clinics, it is increasingly important that nurses become informed about the benefits and risks of cannabis-based medicines. Medical cannabis can interact with other prescription medications, so it is important that nurses feel confident in discussing all potential drug interactions with patients. Additionally, nurses should be prepared to answer questions about the legality of cannabis in the UK and how to consume cannabis safely. As part of the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society, nursing professionals can access expert support as well as the latest research on the topic. They also are able to contribute to developing safe, effective care practices.
