About us

--- The Real Junk Food Project's 'Pay As You Feel' Cafe has been a key fixture in the community of Armley, Leeds since December 2013. Founded by chef Adam Smith and run exclusively by volunteers, the cafe aims to reduce food waste and help those living in food poverty. At the cafe, edible food destined for landfill is intercepted from supermarkets, restaurants and market stalls across Leeds. Instead of going to waste, this food is used to feed hundreds of people every week - many of whom struggle to feed themselves and their families. Because food is served on a donations or 'Pay As You Feel' basis, meals at the cafe are accessible to everyone. The cafe in Armley represents more than just a physical space. It has been a source of inspiration and a launching pad for similar projects all around the country, with Junk Food cafes springing up everywhere from Manchester to Brighton. To date, they have served nearly 3000 people hot meals in the Armley cafe, and intercepted more than 10,000 kilos of waste. Across the UK, there is now a network (~50) of cafes & events which are all run on a Pay As You Feel (PAYF) basis. The PAYF concept is also a UK first...from, The Real Junk Food Project. --- Please get in touch - Please Volunteer Let's Really Feed The World ---
