What a week - Two inspiring awards dinners and good progress with LandAid Tech Network and The RED Foundation. First the Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards with industry 'tour de force' Amit O.. Then onto the EG Awards (happy '20th birthday'!) with the MIPIM team (thanks Filippo Rean, Ronda McHenry- Annesley and Jake Lowe) and hosted by Samantha McClary. Great to hear from Landaid's Paul Morrish, the evenings' charity - reminding us of the growing challenge of youth homelessness. Plenty of challenges in the sector, but always find it uplifting to hear about so many good stories. More to follow on Tech network and RED Foundation progress, but a final word to catching up with old colleagues.... lovely to see Sally Saadeh, Saminder (Sammy) Pahal, Mal Hunt and Justin Sullivan to reminisce - never enough time.... What happens when you put world leaders in #AI research, the best property companies, fantastic The RED Foundation AI speaker Tom Shrive,  RICS tech top man Andrew Knight, the fabulous entertainer Dominic Holland, the father of UK Proptech - Trace Solutions Ltd, and me (!) in one of London's most iconic venues in the centre of London's Square Mile? Well, mix that all up with amazing presentations, live AI demos, great food, a superb band, giveaways, demonstrations, surprises and a new #PropertyManagement product and you get an amazing birthday party. We even added a bit of magic! It was so good to see everyone. Reflecting on a fantastic session at Birmingham Tech week. This event was brilliantly supported by our partner, SuperTech WM and we look forward to many more collaborations like this to support and build conversations on data in the Real Estate sector.

Pleased to share that I’ve joined the committee of The RED Foundation, an initiative dedicated to advancing the ethical and impactful use of AI and data in the real estate sector. The RED Foundation connects people, projects, and initiatives across the built environment and raises awareness of the ethical challenges and opportunities the use of AI presents. I’m looking forward to working with this inspiring group to help ensure the real estate sector leverages data responsibly and effectively to better serve society.

I always enjoy working with students and our longtime academic collaborator and fellow The RED Foundation Steering Group member YI Wu, and yesterday, I had the pleasure and privilege to speak at Henley Business School at the University of Reading as a part of the Masters in Real Estate program. The discussion covered a range of topics, including: - the potential of AI, machine learning, and data science in real estate - alternative real estate-adjacent data - the conceptual and technical processes underpinning the specification, design, and development of algorithms, models, and indices - economic geography, geodemography, urban computing, and forecasting - the differences between the US and UK with respect to data and technical analysis - the importance of domain expertise, deep research, and technical chops I particularly enjoyed learning from students about why they were drawn to real estate and their broader ambitions (e.g., sustainable development, placemaking, land-use optimization, etc.).
