We've already received several applications for this year's Johnny Marr Award! Who will be our 2025 winner...? 👀 Daisy Allen won the award this year with her jaw-dropping singing and songwriting talent. The 13-year-old taught herself to sing with online videos and has been stunning people with her performances! Since becoming a Johnny Marr Award winner, she has: - Invested the £1,000 award money in professional lessons and a keyboard 🎹 - Won the Co-op Academies Trust Young Musician of the Year award in April - Performed at multiple local charity events, open mic nights and venues, including the massive Co-op Live - Been cast in the teen edition of 'Six: The Musical' as one of the queens, Anna of Cleves - Nabbed the role of Lion in The Empty Space's production of 'The Wizard of Oz'! 🦁 We love hearing updates from the teen and are so excited for her upcoming productions. 🎬 Know a young person with great ambitions for music? The team has been busy behind the scenes organising our annual Valentine's Charity Ball! ❤️ This is an established event in our calendar by now and it's proven to be exceptionally popular - we've sold out of tickets already! For next year's event, we're not only raising money for the young people of Salford - we'll also be providing funding for the beloved Salford Lads Club! 🧱 The Club has a century-long history of supporting and changing the lives of young people, including our Johnny Marr Award winner John Denton. With our Johnny Marr Award underway, it only seems right to celebrate its first winner: John Denton! 🏆 John won the award in 2023 when he was just 12 years old, and since then he's been seizing every opportunity that's come his way. There have been a lot! John has: - Bought a new guitar, professional lessons and recording sessions with the £1000 award money - Riffed with Johnny Marr backstage at a gig! 🎸 - Performed 50+ shows at impressive places like Manchester Academy Venues, Brit Fest, The Deaf Institute and Salford City FC. - Appeared on local and national TV, radio and podcasts 🎙️ - Had the brilliant experience of being in a band - Built a name for himself as a promising solo artist - he's in regular contact with promoters and record companies! Why do we primarily fund the 5-25-year-old age group? 🤔 There are quite a few reasons actually! Individuals in this age range: 1. Need nourishing activities for key cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. 2. May experience turbulent mental health, which extracurricular activities can improve. 3. Develop a strong sense of identity and belonging, influenced by engagement with clubs, the community and positive social interactions. ❤️ 4. Are more likely to grow into skilled and capable people when we invest in their development and wellbeing. The Johnny Marr Award is officially open for its third year! 🥳 We're now accepting applications from young people in Salford who have an untameable passion for music, whether it's singing, musical theatre or playing an instrument. If you know anyone who is... - 11-25 years old - a resident of Salford for at least three years - committed to a musical hobby and wants to take it further ...then we'd love for them to submit an application! Financial stress affects more than just wallets. 👛 During our time as a youth charity, we've met countless parents, carers and guardians who struggle to fund their children's hobbies. Many spend all they have on essentials like bills and food, while others exhaust any expendable income on opportunities for their kids. We've seen the impact this can have on families, from guilt to frustration to sleepless nights! 😓 When the cost of participation becomes a barrier, it not only limits children's potential but also affects family dynamics and mental health.  Our aim is to ensure that young people in Salford have the chance to thrive, regardless of their situation at home.
