  • These are images of the next generation of glazing. FINEO is a vacuum-insulated glass that achieves a similar thermal performance to triple glazing, while being considerably thinner. It is also considerably lighter and offers better soundproofing performance than triple glazing. This makes it ideal for renovation projects looking to improve energy efficiency on traditional properties. FINEO came to the market in 2019 as a collaboration between AGC Glass and Panasonic. It is currently the only vacuum glazing to be manufactured in Europe. Over the last few months, we are seeing more windows and doors being specified with FINEO glazing. • This bespoke blue front door is currently being manufactured by our team in Berkshire. The door is made using Accoya and has a bespoke paint finish, with different colours internally and externally. Our team are all highly skilled and understand the importance of paying a high level of attention to detail, especially for bespoke projects. Stefan is currently working on the door, which is being prepared for glazing, having been through joinery and our painting area. We offer a supply-only service of high-quality timber windows and doors nationwide, with an installation service in London and Southern England. https://lnkd.in/eWzwhenW #timberdoors #bespokejoinery #frontdoor

  • We always enjoy a challenge. We were approached by a building contractor to create the bespoke new joinery for this property renovation in Central London. They were looking for a new door to provide access to the flat roof. However, when closed, it needed to look externally like a sash window to comply with planning regulations. Our team came up with the ‘windoor’, a door that is the same shape as a sash window but operates like a door. The ‘windoor’ was manufactured in our workshops in Bracknell and installed by our skilled fitters. The client can now access the flat roof and use it as an outdoor living area, while it also complies with Conservation area planning requirements. Are you looking for a timber window and door manufacturer who can create beautiful, bespoke windows and doors to fit into unusual spaces? • Our industry jargon buster for this week: what is a window sightline? Window sightlines look at whether the horizontal lines on a window match up across the different windows of a property when viewed externally. Equal sightlines are formed when each section of the window is balanced and in harmony with the others. This includes the placement of the window, the window frames, glass panes, and glazing bars. Depending on the property, this can also include the alignment of any doors on the same elevation. This is especially noticeable on Georgian homes, where windows are likely to have multiple glazing bars, but it is an important consideration for any property. Clear lines bring a feeling of harmony, elegance, and order. Many people will therefore view equal sightlines as desirable. At The Sash Window Workshop, we understand the importance of paying extraordinary attention to detail to provide the highest level of accuracy for our new windows and doors. • This was a large renovation and extension project of a 1960s farmhouse in Gloucestershire. The project required a vision for what could be achieved. The new wooden windows and doors had to deliver elegance and have a traditional appearance, while also being double glazed to improve energy efficiency. Prior to placing the order, the customer visited us in Bracknell to have a tour of our manufacturing premises to see the attention to detail that goes into our new joinery. They were delighted with the quality of the joinery and were confident that every detail would be taken care of, so decided to place their order. Upon completion, the customer commented that “the windows and doors were instrumental in the transformation of our building into a beautiful family home.” If you are looking for new timber windows and doors for your project, contact us today on 01344 868 668. https://lnkd.in/eMihvKxj #windowsanddoors #renovationprojects #houserenovation #timberwindows #timberdoors #ukjoinery #madeinBritain

  • Why do we choose to use Accoya® wood for our new windows and doors? We are proud to have been an early adopter of Accoya.  We spent a long time researching which timber to use before settling with Accoya due to its stability and durability, enabling us to manufacture long-lasting, high-quality windows and doors. Accoya is a sustainably sourced, low-maintenance timber, that comes with a 50-year anti-rot guarantee, giving our customers the peace of mind that their investment is easily justified. The timber also possesses fantastic thermal insulation qualities, keeping the property warm during the winter months. The wood starts its life as a fast-growing pine tree, before it goes through a process called wood acetylation. This changes the cell structure of the wood to reduce moisture absorption. We can use other timbers if you are looking for a stained finish. Find out more about why we use Accoya at the link below or give us a call today on 01344 868 668 for a quote. https://lnkd.in/exJkm6ey

  • Improving the energy efficiency of a property not only saves heating costs, but also helps improve sustainability. For listed buildings, it isn’t always possible to replace windows and upgrade to double glazing. New windows require planning consent and Conservation Officers are often reluctant to allow double glazing. This means that a different solution is often required to improve energy efficiency. Secondary glazing helps improve energy efficiency while retaining the existing windows. It involves installing an additional window internally, in front of the existing window. This not only offers similar benefits to double glazing, but also helps increase the security and reduce noise. At The Sash Window Workshop, we have been manufacturing and installing secondary glazing in listed buildings for the last 30 years and have a wealth of experience and knowledge working on period properties. Historic England has reported that heat losses by conduction and radiation through a window can be reduced by over 60% by installing secondary glazing with Low-E glass facing externally, with additional thermal benefits if the secondary glazing has double-glazed units. If you are interested in secondary glazing for your project, contact our team today on 01344 868 668 or visit the link below to find out more. https://lnkd.in/eC4WPDst

  • We are happy to announce that we successfully reduced our carbon emissions (per £ million turnover) by 4% in 2023, compared to the previous year! Every year we undertake an independent review of our carbon emissions, carried out by Carbon Footprint Ltd. We continue to work hard to reduce our emissions and are proud that our most recent audit (for 2023) highlighted that our carbon emissions (per £ million turnover) had dropped 27.5% compared to our base year in 2019. We continually look for ways to become more sustainable, from investing in electric vehicles to utilising technology and recycling as much as possible. We believe that we were the first timber window company in the UK to achieve Carbon Neutral Plus status, offsetting 125% of our total emissions into independently vetted carbon offsetting projects. We first achieved this in 2022 (offsetting our 2021 emissions), and we will be looking to do this again for our 2023 emissions. We know that climate change is a hot topic, and we remain committed to continually reducing our carbon emissions. https://lnkd.in/ekFTBY4B

  • 2024 is a year of celebrations not just for The Sash Window Workshop but also for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) UK, also known as FSC. We proudly display the FSC trademark on our website, having achieved FSC Chain of Custody Certification in 2016. We would like to take this opportunity to recognise FSC’s 30th anniversary. When you come across the FSC logo, it is a statement which shows that the timber used in the product is sourced from responsibly managed forests. This week is the annual FSC Forest Week, which takes place during the last week in September. It is an opportunity to reflect on how you make your purchase, to always check the label and make sure that you are buying a FSC-certified product. The Forest Stewardship Council is active on social media, so please follow them and keep up with their campaigning for more sustainably managed forests! https://lnkd.in/eDKsbfp2 #FSCForestWeek #sustainability #windowsanddoors
