Improving teaching and leadership in Schools through established training courses
About us
The University of Buckingham’s teacher training courses are amongst the most established and successful in the country Teacher Training Back in 2002 Professor Sir Chris Woodhead and Professor Anthony O’Hear led the first teacher training course to be offered at The University of Buckingham. There were just 12 teachers. Now, with over 1,300 teachers and school leaders studying with us, we have become one of the country’s leading providers of teacher training and professional development. Our primary aim in all of our courses is to improve teaching and leadership in schools. The frameworks and assessments for each course weave into your day-to-day school lives so that study and practice are relevant to your role and aspirations.

⭐ Thank you for sharing your highlights with us Hollie, it's been so lovely to read. Well done on completing your first term and keep the updates coming 👏 University of Buckingham #PGCE #sportseducation #teachertraining
As I complete my first term of my PGCE at Forres Sandle Manor School and The University of Buckingham Faculty of Education, I am taking a moment to reflect on the significant experiences and milestones achieved in both my academic and extracurricular pursuits. Throughout the term, I have had the opportunity to develop my teaching practice, engage with all year groups, and contribute to the wider school community. Some key highlights include: ✅First Official Observation: A major milestone was my first formal observation with my university tutor. The lessons were insightful and positive, and the feedback provided has guided my ongoing professional development. I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on my teaching strategies and continue refining my approach. ✅Coaching & Fixtures: One of the most rewarding aspects of my term has been coaching some of the the girls’ netball and hockey teams. Leading them to several victories in competitive fixtures, particularly against challenging opposition, has been both a personal and professional highlight. The experience of fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience in young athletes has deepened my appreciation for the broader role that sport plays in education. ✅Teaching & Sport Integration: The balance between classroom teaching and coaching has proven invaluable, allowing me to hone my ability to engage students both in lessons and through extracurricular activities. It has been a rewarding challenge to integrate teaching strategies that encourage not only their sporting growth but also the development of life skills such as leadership, collaboration, and perseverance Looking back on my journey from the graduate I was last year to where I am now feels almost surreal. I am incredibly thankful for the support I've received from my fabulous PE department and all the colleagues I work closely with. I am feeling very fortunate to be ending the year on such a positive note, and I look forward to continuing this journey at FSM in 2025! Wishing everybody a happy new year and a wonderful 2025⭐️🥳 #PGCE #sportseducation #teachertraining

A great in person day with the January cohort of the PGTA. Our PE trainees enjoyed a practical session with Jan Dossett in addition to other lectures during the day on behaviour and EPA. So nice to meet and engage with the trainees in person rather than online. The University of Buckingham Faculty of Education
