  • ‼️ There are only 24 hours to go for donations to be doubled to help us reach more children and young people struggling with their mental health! We have been overwhelmed by how generous our supporters have been throughout our Big Give Christmas Challenge. For children and young people who are referred to us for many reasons including neglect, abuse, bullying, bereavement or those living in low income households our Surf Therapy intervention can be a vital lifeline. However, we still have a way to go if we are to reach the full £100,000 we are aiming for. Any donation that you are able to make before midday tomorrow (Tuesday 10th December) will be DOUBLED and will help us reach the children and young people who so desperately need our help: https://lnkd.in/eCXDJB7T #Mentalhealthmatters #ChristmasChallenge #SurfTherapy

CEO at The Wave Project - Changing young lives through surf therapy

On Friday The Wave Project won an award at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards in the Circular Economy category!! We were the runner-up, behind the amazing Waterhaul, whose products we proudly stock in our shop. Waterhaul deservedly also won the winner-of-winners award at the event, held at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. We got this award for our preloved wetsuit scheme, which we run with key support from SUEZ UK and Cornwall Council's Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Good Growth Fund. We collect and process wetsuits that have been preloved. SUEZ UK do the first selection and they then take the very best wetsuits to our shop in Newquay. We process them, and sell them at an affordable price. Not only does this generate essential funds for our Surf Therapy charity. It also makes the (cold) ocean more accessible for some people who may not otherwise be able to afford a good wetsuit, as well as has a significant positive impact on the environmental by diverting fossil-fuel based neoprene away from landfill. We have big plans for this project, and with the funding we are now completely reimagining our shop, and are exploring expansion. Watch this space! My amazing colleagues Ed Connors and Kate Davies picked up the award. Ed said "Although I collected the award, I felt like it was on behalf of Kate, who has worked tirelessly processing wetsuits. In all my years handling donated goods, I know it takes a special type of character to work as hard and as passionately as Kate. It sometimes seems like an endless task, and Kate somehow just keeps on going, always with a smile. This award is really also an acknowledgement for her efforts and the important work she is doing." We are, like many charities, so lucky with the team we have. Together we make the world a better place, one child and now also one wetsuit at the time!

  • 🌊 "The Wave Project provided a bright spot in the midst of a difficult time." At our project hub in #NorthernIreland, one young surfer began their journey reluctantly, unsure of what to expect. But by the end of the first session, they couldn’t wait to return. Over time, they built trust with their mentor, formed new friendships and found joy even in the midst of a challenging time. This week, your support can create more life-changing moments like this through the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge. Every donation will be DOUBLED, helping us bring hope and happiness to more families across the UK. Read the full story and learn how you can help: https://lnkd.in/eiJqH_xM

  • 🌊 "What started as an apprehensive journey to our favourite beach soon turned into an adventure of sheer excitement and joy. He has always loved and been confident in the water. However, Surf Therapy offered something more than that, The Wave Project created a little family with friendship, security and smiles all round. Their encouragement and 100% dedication as a group of volunteers left a positive lasting impression upon my foster son. He came alive in the sea, laughed and smiled abundantly. He took risk, learning to first kneel and then stand up, riding the waves." This Christmas, you can help more young people thrive through #SurfTherapy by supporting us in the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge. Every donation will be DOUBLED, making twice the impact for children who need it most: https://lnkd.in/eCXDJB7T

  • 💙 Wondering how your donation will impact us during the Big Give Christmas Challenge? With your donations, we’ll support children and young people aged 8-18 improve their wellbeing through the transformative power of #SurfTherapy and connecting with blue spaces. Thanks to the Big Give, your donation can have double the impact. A contribution of £30 could provide a wetsuit for a child to participate in our programmes, while £83 could fund an entire Surf Therapy session. For those able to give more, £500 could support a child through our entire 6-week Surf Therapy course. Normally, this would cost twice as much! Donate before the 10th of December to have your donation doubled: https://lnkd.in/eCXDJB7T #ChristmasChallenge
