Hands up who used to love the weekly trip to the library to swap out your haul of last week's books for the newest and shiniest titles? There was nothing better than getting your hands on that specific book that you'd been on the waiting list for, for what seemed like an eternity. But keep your hand up if you still have a book lingering on your bookshelf that you might have forgotten to return, but it got to the point where returning it would have been more expensive than buying a new copy. We bet there are more hands still raised than you'd think! So we think that this borrower in the States deserves a big high five for having the decency to return three titles over 40 years late! https://heyor.ca/h25kTz Luckily, the library had gone fine-free some years before so the potential fine of over $1,000 was never imposed! At least the honest book lover had good taste - the titles were all by the awesome Roald Dahl! #RoaldDahl #BorrowABook #ReadMore

"After being sent off after a foul in my football match, I followed the foul smell and saw a long-legged fowl at the edge of the pond." Homophone fans will easily spot this month's example. While foul is often used to describe a smell that is unpleasant or an unfair act by a player in sports, in its different spelling it refers to domesticated poultry used for eggs and meat. Now, just to add to this fun, and while not technically a true homophone, we'd like to point out a common misuse of the word in either form as a prefix to the phrase "swoop". A swift act carried out all at once is in fact a "fell" swoop, using neither fowl nor foul! Extra points for everyone who knew that! #Homophone #Fowl #Foul #EnglishWords

What question has been posed with Katie this month? Q: I want to book an editor in advance of finishing writing my book. Is this something I can do with you, Katie? Katie: Yes, absolutely! I am a line editor, so as long as you are not requiring developmental editing, that is no issue at all. If you are able to send over or give me access to some of the works you have written, I will be able to pick at random approximately 1,000 words to do a free trial edit for you to see if we would be a good fit to work together. Once this has been done and returned to you, you will be able to see if my work is something you are happy with and then you have time to make a decision as to whether you would like me to be your editor. Either way, you would not be charged for this trial service. This can all be done before your full book is completed. That way, you are able to have chosen whether to use me, or not, prior to your book being ready for editing. You will then be able to book in for editing (should you choose me) and this will enable you to be able to book at a more convenient time for you...with less waiting for a time slot! Today might be a Saturday, but like many other freelancers, Katie will be working to make sure your work is completed on time, whatever the day! On the plus side, she'll be enjoying the fact that today is National Freelancer Day, a day to celebrate all that freelancers bring to their clients and the economy as a whole. Think this sounds a bit of a wild claim? Think again! Freelancers, like Katie, are beneficial to you and your business because they: - save you time - reduce expenditure - need fewer necessary training resources - require no physical desk space in your workplace - can be used as and when - have a wide knowledge base working for so many clients - are very organised and capable - work long & varied hours to fit in with you & your needs (rarely 9-5) - want you to be happy - if their clients aren't, neither are they! - survive on their reputation and therefore they care! If you haven't yet experienced our services when it comes to copywriting, editing and proofreading, why not get in touch to find out how our business can benefit your business: https://lnkd.in/giFeY4Yi #TheYorkshireEditor #EditingService #Proofreading #Copywriting #FreelancerDay

Hello! Bonjour! Hola! Ciao! However you say it, today is the day to shout it from the rooftops because it's National Hello Day! Saying hello is more than a greeting, it's how we form, develop and keep relationships alive. But we know that while we are full of good intentions, it's all too easy to forget to keep in touch. So why not pick one person you have been meaning to reach out to and say "hello" to them today? A simple text, email, tweet or mention - it doesn't have to be a big gesture, but it might just mean a huge amount to the recipient! #HelloDay #SayHi #KeepInTouch #Hello #Communicate

What with Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night, you could be forgiven for thinking this month is all a bit cloak and dagger, which is perfect for this month's etymology example! The word 'escape' comes from the Latin word 'escape' which literally translates as 'to get hold of your cape and leave your pursuer holding just your cape'! We love this–nice and simple–the word does exactly what it says on the proverbial tin! #Etymology #Escape #LatinDerivatives

What are the top five most frequently given reasons as to why Katie is asked to write for clients? ✍️ They are too busy; ✍️ Writing isn't their "thing"! ✍️ Clients don't feel as if they are good with words; ✍️ Often, clients say they are unable to get their point across or are concerned about using incorrect or inappropriate wording/language; ✍️ Quite simply, many would rather be anywhere else, doing anything else! Katie loves writing for businesses. Who better to do it than someone who is a business owner herself, has plenty of experience working with an array of businesses and business owners, and is more than qualified as a writer!? Let Katie write for you in whatever capacity you require. After all, don't you have something else you could be doing...? https://lnkd.in/e6ry9BuB #TheYorkshireEditor #Writer #Writing #Write #WriteForMe #WriteABlog #Copy #Copywriter #Copywriting #ContentCreation #SmallBusiness #SmallBiz #BusinessWriting #BusinessTips #Website #WriteWebCopy #CaptionWriter #Professional #5StarRated #5StarRating #LoveMyJob #Sheffield #SouthYorkshire

Everyone takes the library for granted, don't they? But with today's access to free books, cheap second-hand options and endless choices, few people actually use them. A delve into your memory bank will undoubtedly conjure up images of musty-smelling shelves full of well-thumbed books with hushed voices muttering somewhere in the distance. There are two issues with this memory - firstly, (and sadly) libraries are at risk of being closed if they are not used. But, the good news is, they are also not the quiet, restrictive zones they once were. https://heyor.ca/G5ekmp In response to the obvious changes that have taken place over the last few decades, libraries have evolved to meet the needs of the community, and are now considered more as community hubs that encourage people to meet up and socialise, in potentially otherwise quite isolating society. Pitched as a great place to make friends, libraries of today act as a hosting space for everything from coffee mornings to book clubs, and there really is something for everyone. So why not pop into your local library next time you're in town and see what they have to offer? #Library #ReadMore #Books #SupportLocalLibraries
