Private Equity’s Shift Toward Larger Deals: What It Means for Recruitment in 2025.. Private equity dealmaking has evolved significantly over the past few years, with a clear trend toward larger transactions dominating the market. The numbers paint a striking picture: Larger Deals Are Taking Over 2020: $500B total deal value, top 10 deals = ~55% 2021: $1.2T total deal value, top 10 deals = ~50% 2022: $800B total deal value, top 10 deals = ~60% 2023: PE dealmaking down 60% from 2021 peaks, but top 10 deals = ~65% 2024: top 10 deals = ~70% This concentration of deal value at the top signals a fundamental shift in how private equity firms allocate capital, structure deals, and compete for assets. There has been a notable shift in sentiment towards growth hiring across EMEA, it’s important to highlight that momentum is #uneven. While some regions and sectors are showing strong signs of recovery, others remain more cautious. Regional Trends: 📍 UK – M&A and Strategy roles up ~20% YoY, Increased demand for commercial strategy, CDD, and value creation consultants. 📍 DACH – Industrial and Manufacturing hiring up 25% YoY, Demand for strategy consultants with operational expertise, particularly in supply chain, procurement, and transformation. 📍 Nordics – TMT, Industrials, and Infrastructure seeing 30% growth in hiring. Strong demand for CDD, value creation, and growth strategy experts in Tech, Industrials, and Infrastructure. 📍 France & Benelux - Transformation hiring up ~15%, Mid-market PE activity increasing, leading to demand for operational consultants and turnaround specialists. Growth in consumer, healthcare, and logistics. 📍 Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Portugal) – Strong focus on efficiency and restructuring, with demand for cost transformation and M&A advisory experts.
