  • The Good Board and London Climate Action Week As an international executive search and leadership firm and B Corp committed to being a carbon neutral business, we believe every organisation and leader has the potential to be both commercially successful and a force for good in the world. We have been following this years’ London Climate Action Week which has focussed on the road to COP30, financing the global climate transition, delivering Net Zero, and mobilising social action. Key messages from this week’s festival have shown positive momentum, with this article really standing out to us “A New Phase for Climate Action” https://lnkd.in/eiNKShpj “Only 10 years ago there was no universal goal for emissions reductions, or a temperature rise limit. No country had committed to achieving net-zero emissions, energy investment was dominated by fossil fuels and electric vehicles were a niche sector. Now more than 90% of the global economy is covered by a net-zero goal and countries are aligning around the 1.5°C temperature goal. Companies are competing for green investment and the energy transition is well underway. “This year investment in clean energy surpassed fossil fuels and is growing 30% every year.” During a time when the public narrative can be so divisive, it is especially important to recognise and celebrate progress – while still acknowledging the scale of the challenge. One of the key themes from this week which has resonated most strongly at The Good Board is collaboration. Collaboration between leaders and businesses working together across sectors and systems to create positive change and to be a force for good in the world. #LCAW2024

  • 🌍 World Environment Day 2024: will you join Generation Restoration? 🌍 The UN’s words are impossible to ignore: "A Tree begins with a seed; Generation Restoration begins with You" We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land.   Here at The Good Board, we believe in leadership as a force for good: we believe in taking positive action ourselves, and we believe in sharing this positivity with Candidates, Clients, and our network alike.  As a B Corp, we are committed to minimising our environmental footprint and we actively seek opportunities to contribute to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. We also donate a percentage of our revenues to global causes aligned with the UNSDGs. 🌲🌳 This year we supported TreeSisters, who run ethical reforestation programmes around the world while advocating for and reconnecting everyone with Nature. This is even more than ‘just’ planting trees: this is supporting women and communities, addressing bio-diversity loss, and addressing climate resilience in projects across Borneo, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, DRC, DRC Kivu, Kenya, Madagascar Bambetoka & Kalamboro, and Nepal. 🌳🌲   Of course, nobody is perfect, no business is perfect, and we can all do more. What actions are you and your business taking? What else could you do?   💡 Need inspiration? - Watch the 60 second video, link in the comments below, - Take a look at the amazing work done by TreeSisters, give them a follow, and even donate!   Together we will make a difference.   #GenerationRestoration #TheGoodBoard

Are you here, now? Are you present and ready to think, share, act? How often are we all just on autopilot, getting stuff done, with heads down, in the zone? B For Good Leaders last week highlighted the current social, environmental, and economic challenges we face, the positive actions being taken, and the need for greater bravery. We were challenged to look up and to look forward, to face social, environmental, and economic challenges and to ask if we are being brave enough to tackle them. We don’t lack ideas - progress is happening slowly. The issue is implementation. We need to lead change more urgently, on a larger scale. Sustainable value in business goes beyond transactions and cost-cutting; it’s about talented, inspired people doing great work. To attract and retain these people, businesses must think long-term, focusing on clear purpose, valuing people, and sustainability. This approach is crucial for ensuring a future for the next generations. We were inspired by: 🌍 Sandrine Dixson-Declève Co-President of The Club of Rome and author of ‘Earth for All,’ talked about a Potsdam Institute survey which estimates we will lose 15% of GDP at 1.5 degrees. This is not just an environmental crisis – it is an economic one. 💰 Otto Scharmer, Senior Lecturer at MIT and Founding Chair of the Presencing Institute, talked about a recent survey showing 69% of people globally would sacrifice 1% of their income to solve global challenges – but all of them think they are in the minority. Imagine what we could do if we knew we were not alone! 📅 Dutch historian and author Rutger Bregman asked us whether we have the ‘moral ambition’ to stand on the right side of history before it becomes ‘trendy.’ He wanted us to think about how we spend the 2,000 working weeks of an average career as one of the biggest ethical decisions of our lives. 💡 John Elkington, a world authority on corporate responsibility and sustainable capitalism, talked not about having one epiphany that changed his working life, but about having a new epiphany every five or so years, feeling challenged to emerge from another chrysalis in a new way to face new challenges and opportunities. More leadership pledges to celebrate: ✅ Rituals CEO, Raymond Cloosterman, launching a pledge to donate 10% of company profits. ✅Charlie MacGregor of Social Hub talking about investing 1% of sales in a Talent Foundation. ✅Albert Heijn CEO Marit van Egmond (who fills the plates of 7 million people every night) discussing putting emissions data on all products so consumers can cook a climate-neutral meal. ✅Maria Paola Chiesi explaining why Chiesi Pharmaceuticals is a B Corp and their focus on investing in life-changing drugs for rare diseases. Business should be a force for good: this thinking must start at the top. No business is perfect, but The Good Board is privileged to work with leaders around the world who want to have a more positive impact in the future. #sustainableleadership
