The IMI welcomes the fast-track consultation announced yesterday by the Secretary of State for Business and Industry, the Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP. As the sector works to meet ambitious EV sales targets, the IMI is emphasising the need for certainty and support to help businesses and individuals invest in critical EV skills. With only 25% of the workforce qualified to work on EVs, and just 9% qualified to Level 4, prioritising aftermarket training is essential to meet growing demands. Azlina Bulmer, IMI Managing Director, commented: "Representing the interests of our 100,000+ members, we aim to make clear in our response to the consultation that businesses and individuals need the certainty and support to invest in the critical skills required to support an ever-growing electric vehicle parc and to give motorists the confidence to make the switch." We also urge that the consultation addresses the pressures manufacturers face, especially following the Luton van factory closure, and stand ready to support the sector through this transition.
