🗞️ E&S Insurer: February 2025 issue out now M&A in the U.S. distribution space has been a dominant theme in recent years, with private equity-backed consolidators and some of the publicly traded giants driving record deal volumes in the retail segment. Although headwinds (including leverage and debt market conditions) have affected a number of the most prolific buyers over the last few years, the overall volume of transactions in 2024 was still the third highest ever, according to MarshBerry data. And there has been a shift at the top of the food chain in the last 12-18 months, with the major retailers making some of the largest acquisitions the sector has ever seen. As we report in our February issue, the volume of specialty distribution deals did drop off by around a third to 120 last year – attributed to limited supply as demand for assets remain strong.
