"Exceptionally preserved" fossils of an ancient shark that lived alongside the dinosaurs have finally revealed what the predator looked like — and why it may have gone extinct. As you probably know, greenwashing is rife. None of us are perfect when it comes to sustainability so if someone tries to tell you they ARE, they’re probably fibbing… I believe transparency is vital – if there are areas where you’re still improving and you’re not quite there yet, be open and honest about what you’re doing to overcome these challenges. Personally, there’s LOTS I still need to work on. A few places where I could improve include: 🍳 I’m flexitarian but not fully plant-based - I'm still working on reducing my meat and dairy intake. 📄 I’ve reduced my paper use (I no longer have a printer) but I'm not yet fully paper-free. As a writer (digital notes don't always cut it when I need to scribble) going entirely paper free will be challenging but I'm trying to be mindful of not always automatically reaching for the nearest paper and pen... 💡 I want to switch to a renewable energy provider (at the time of writing this scheduled post, we're right in the middle of the energy crisis so it's not currently feasible to switch) ✈️ I’m not yet flight-free (I know, I know). I’m trying to be as mindful as possible about my flying habits: thinking about whether I can choose other holiday options (e.g. UK or Europe), use public transport for short-haul journeys and offset any flights I do take. Plus, when I do travel, I want to use the experiences to inspire other people with the wonders of the ocean to spread the message about how important it is to protect our blue planet. Your turn... anyone brave enough to share the areas you're not yet perfect? Or challenges you're facing in your sustainability journey? #TinyTip #Sustainability #ForPurpose #GreenBusiness #Writer Image shows a teal card reading: Tiny Tip - Be honest and transparent

What's going on with the spinning fish in Florida? Scientists are worried about endangered smalltooth sawfish which have been seen spinning in circles and dying. Now, experts are getting involved to rescue, rehabilitate and release these fish in distress. I wrote about it for BBC Wildlife - Fin - 🦈 Hi, I'm Mel & I write about the ocean.
