Keeping patients warm before, during, and after surgery is critical to preventing hypothermia and reducing post-op infection risks (NICE, 2013). Yet, 20% of patients still arrive in the OR cold, leading to delayed surgeries and poorer outcomes—sometimes due to a lack of consistency around pre-warming. 🚨 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🚨 While forced air and conductive warming are widely used, they come with some drawbacks: 🔹 𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 – These solutions are often introduced at the point of surgery, when patients have already lost heat, causing avoidable delays. 🔹 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 – They require extra equipment, space, and energy, which not all facilities have. 📣 We are delighted to be attending the upcoming 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 in Birmingham which focuses on all of the ways that Trusts can improve patient outcomes through reducing the risk of infection throughout the patient pathway. We look forward to sharing how 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗢𝗨𝗥 is helping Trusts maintain patient normothermia before, during and after surgery to help lower SSI rates and aid faster recovery times.
