At our Spennymoor Manufacturing plant we are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our buildings and facilities through our sustainability initiatives, including our energy reduction efforts. During FY21/22 and FY22/23 we had a 1.3 million kWh reduction in electricity and gas. We have improved our energy efficiency by installing new site compressors, resulting in a 13% increase in energy efficiency, and LED high bay luminaires in our distribution centre, reducing electricity usage by 54%. We have been collaborating with Patrick Rimoux, artist and lighting designer, on various projects for many years. Patrick, with his extensive experience in religious building lighting, was the logical choice for the unique mission of illuminating Notre-Dame de Paris. He began searching for the best solutions for this exceptional project, and over three years, we explored different ways to meet his expectations. Thorn Lighting's Contrast projectors quickly emerged as a strong starting point to highlight the vaults of the nave and transept. Patrick's precision and high standards led us to modify the luminaires by combining two LED colours - 2200K and 5000K - with an RDMX driver and medium beam. This setup allows subtle white colour mixing and precise scene controls to enhance the new white tones of the stones. Patrick also required the lighting to adapt to various uses, such as liturgy, events, and concerts. Finally, 54 powerful, energy-efficient Contrast projectors, painted to match the stone, were installed to beautifully illuminate the vaults of Notre-Dame Cathedral. It is an honour for Thorn Lighting a member of the Zumtobel Group to have contributed its expertise and technology to the "renaissance" of Notre-Dame de Paris, alongside many other lighting providers. SAPCA member, Thorn Lighting, and Zumtobel UK – lighting brands of the Zumtobel Group – have announced a partnership with English Championship club, Sunderland AFC, to provide a comprehensive lighting upgrade at the club’s home venue, Stadium of Light. The project represents part of the club’s most significant investment in its stadium in over two decades and aligns with Sunderland AFC’s long-term sustainability goals, including its aim to become energy self-sufficient by 2028.
