Updates

  • To celebrate three years since our official launch, we have made all 174 of our technical case studies FREE for all to download. https://lnkd.in/eZPXAubu This includes the very best uses of timber in construction from the past decade, including dozens of Wood Awards winners – such as the RIBA Stirling Prize winning Magdalene College Library and Goldsmith Street projects. Our case study library is an incredibly rich source of #timber knowledge, featuring everything from beautiful schools through to stunning homes, swimming pools, hospitals, retrofits, gridshells, interiors, and community buildings. Together they form an essential learning resource for students and professionals alike, and the basis of our monthly webinar series ‘designTimber’ delivered by the architects, engineers and design teams behind each project. “When we came together three years ago, we did so to connect the supply chain, lead best practice and accelerate a low carbon future,” said TDUK chief executive David Hopkins. “We are very proud of our work over the last three years, which has included dozens of new case studies where you can find both #technical details and explanations, and key performance data on #carbon. “Sharing knowledge is crucial, as timber is an essential tool to overcoming the climate and housing crisis in the UK, and we want every #architect, #engineer and #contractor in the UK to know how best to use it. “At its heart, Timber Development UK is a community – a place for people passionate about using wood to make a difference to connect, network, share and learn. No matter which part of the supply chain you work in. “This is why we say if you work with #wood, you already belong. Because anyone who touches timber, whether you work in the forest, a joinery workshop, behind a desk, on a building site, or you are just starting your journey – we are here to support you. “For all of our members, and the tens of thousands of professionals across the UK who have over the past few years downloaded our resources, attended our events, given us a follow or sent us a message of support – members, non-members and students – we are incredibly thankful. “If you do enjoy our work and would like to support it to continue by joining, please do get in touch. We would love to have you in our community, and of course, tell you about the many benefits that are exclusive to members. “Meanwhile, we are going to be continuing to add more case studies – and we have some really exciting new publications coming to our library before the end of the year – so please do explore all we have to offer, and keep in touch.” To download case studies, along with hundreds of other resources available on the TDUK website, simply create a free account – which takes less than 30 seconds. https://lnkd.in/dVzuiQcf If you would like to find out about all the benefits of membership, do get in touch with our team.

  • We hope all in the timber industry managed to have a relaxing break over Christmas and the New Year.   While some may have been taking it easy over the break, our chief executive David Hopkins appears to have been busy - featuring as the special guest on the latest 'Talking Timber Podcast' to discuss Global Timber Availability.   The World Bank estimates global wood consumption will double by 2050, but with supply and demand already relatively tight there are essential questions about how we support forests to meet these pressures.   Dave talks with Keith and Mike about the pressures on timber today - from climate change, the invasion of Ukraine, and emerging consumer markets - to how we can harness the power of the market to grow forests.   Listen below to get the full scoop - and help get your mind in mode to take on the big issues of 2025.   https://lnkd.in/eiFR-bpS Talking Timber Podcast - Episode 2 - Global Timber Availability (Featuring: Dave Hopkins)

  • BSW Group has announced it will be investing significantly in its BSW Timber Solutions and Bayram Timber sites in Melton, near Hull, where it will be expanding production operations and enhancing IT infrastructure. Following recent investment in a new automated crosscutting line, BSW will now be expanding into a third Melton site, where a new 100km3 capacity per annum treatment tank will be located. The investment into this additional site, along with improvements to IT operating platforms, will create a significantly enhanced offering for BSW’s existing and potential customer base, the company said. The Bayram site, which has operated for over 20 years and supplies bespoke, high-quality timber products to industrial end users, will also benefit from continued investment as part of the binderholz group. To support these investments, the trading assets and liabilities of Bayram Timber will also be merged into BSW Timber Solutions with effect from April 2025. There will be no change to the day-to-day operations of BSW Timber Solutions or Bayram. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gmgmJAK3 #timber #investment #infrastructure #production

  • Timber Development UK has published a new Trade Note updating members on the EU anti-dumping investigation into Hardwood-faced Plywood from China, acting on a complaint by the Greenwood Consortium, which represents the EU’s hardwood plywood industry. This investigation means that all Hardwood Faced Plywood from China arriving in the EU must be declared against specific new commodity codes upon arrival. The TDUK Trade Note aims to shed light on the current status of the investigation and what it means for the UK and Northern Ireland markets.
