🎄🍸 Office Party Season: Fun or Fiasco? 🍸🎄 Ah, the office party. The time of year when tinsel meets tequila, and colleagues swap spreadsheets for Secret Santa. It's all fun and games... until you hear the gossip or receive a complaint the next day. Sure, you want your team to let their hair down (responsibly). But for the management team, the festive cheer can quickly turn into a festive fear if things go awry. Here's what to keep in mind to avoid HR issues at your office party. 🎅 Mistletoe Missteps: Harmless flirting can cross a line. Be clear about boundaries and remind everyone that your workplace policies don’t take a holiday. 🍷 Too Much Mulled Wine: Open bars are great, but no one wants to play referee to drunken karaoke disputes. Consider a drinks limit or some non-alcoholic options. 💃 Dancing (and Other) Shenanigans: What happens on the dance floor might not stay on the dance floor. Keep the tone of the party professional-ish. 🎁 The Gift of Clarity: A pre-party email with a friendly reminder about appropriate behaviour is the perfect blend of festive and firm. Office parties are a great way to show appreciation and boost morale, but they’re still a work event—and that means you’re on the hook for what happens. So, set some ground rules, keep it fun, and everyone will be back at their desks (mostly) drama-free in 2025! And any problems, get in touch!

‘The biggest upgrade to rights at work for a generation’ – that’s the bold ambition of Labour’s new Employment Rights Bill, set to be published this Thursday, 10 October 2024. Whilst there’s always plenty to talk about in the field of HR and employment law, it’s fair to say that recent years have been relatively quiet in terms of new legislation – more a tweaking of the edges than substantive new developments. But all that is about to change, as the Government seeks to implement the manifesto pledges set out in its ‘Plan to Make Work Pay: Delivering a New Deal for Working People’. So brace yourselves….things are about to get a little bumpy. https://lnkd.in/eiqANRdb

In this new series from TJD Law, we’ll be shining the spotlight on a different hot topic of employment law each fortnight, and with Labour’s sweeping employment law reforms, there’s certainly plenty to talk about. We’ll be revealing the truth behind the headline-grabbing scare stories and summarising the bits you need to know about the stuff that really matters. In this article, we look at the recent Supreme Court decision in Tesco Stores Ltd v USDAW and concept of ‘fire & rehire’ – what is it? why is it problematic? and what plans does the Government have for it? https://lnkd.in/esd9y8eU
