✨ “True connection starts with intention—intentionally seeing, listening, and valuing one another.” – Dr Vivek Murthy I recently listened to a powerful conversation between Oprah Winfrey and Vivek Murthy about loneliness. They spoke about how loneliness isn’t just a lack of people around us—it’s a lack of feeling seen, heard, and valued. The antidote? Service to others and intentional connection. This made me reflect on how small, everyday actions—when done with intention—can help us feel more connected and create a ripple effect in our communities. Service doesn’t have to be grand. It can be as simple as: 💬 Reaching out to someone you have not spoken with in a while. 👋 Introducing yourself to a neighbour you’ve never spoken to. 🤝 Offering a small amount of your time or skills to a cause you care about. As I am learning every day at Together Co,through service, we move beyond our own experiences, and open ourselves to the lives of others. It’s not just about what we give—it’s about what we gain. When we show up for others, we feel more grounded, purposeful, and yes—more connected too. So, as we prepare to step into 2025, here’s something to think about: What small act of service or connection could you commit to in the new year? I will go first..... I will message a neighbour this evening I have not spoken to in a while, and who keeps coming in to my mind, to see if they would like a cup of tea soon. Meet David McDermott, our newest Together Co ambassador. David has been a supporter of Together Co for many years, both as a volunteer befriender, fundraiser, corporate sponsor, business mentor, and as a host at the charity’s events. We are so grateful for his incredible support and happy that he has agreed to become an ambassador for our charity. He said: "Together Co has had a big impact on my life and the lives of so many others. The charity brings everyone together and supports people who might not see or speak to anybody for weeks or months on end to integrate into the community. “The charity’s work is vital and so important. I know first hand the benefits I have experienced since I was matched with a local neighbour. Taking time out of the 'busyness' of my day and going to have a wonderful chat over a cup of tea has become the highlight of my week. Whether you have just an hour a year, two hours a week, or anything in between, there’s a way to give your time and make a difference: 💬 Build friendships: Be matched with a neighbour for chats in person, over the phone, or through letters. 🚗 Provide a helping hand: Drive someone to an event or activity, giving them the gift of connection. 🎉 Support our events: Help at one of our activities or celebrations. 🎓 Share your skills: Use your knowledge to support Together Co’s mission in unique and impactful ways. The charity sector needs volunteers more than ever, and 2025 could be the perfect year to give the gift of time to your local community. Volunteering isn’t just about helping others—it’s about the joy and fulfilment it brings to you as well. If formal volunteering isn’t your thing, why not start small?
