We’re preparing our ST40 tokamak for a big year ahead! The vibrant colours in these images are from the boronisation process, where we coat the inner walls of the tokamak with a thin layer of boron. This conditions the walls, reducing plasma-polluting impurities and enhancing performance. Our 2025 campaign kicks off later this month, with a focus on maximising the triple product – a crucial measure of #plasma performance that includes temperature, density and energy confinement time. We’ve also begun installing of our new gyrotron, a key technology for heating the #fusion fuel, which we'll be testing later this year. And we’re gearing up for our recently announced $52 million ST40 upgrade programme in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, which will focus on lithium-coated plasma facing components. All of our work with ST40 is focussed on delivering the clean, limitless #fusionenergy the world urgently needs. We can’t wait to get started! #FusionForAll #Limitless #CleanEnergyTransition
