On Thursday, during the first Panel of the AmCham Manufacturing Forum 2024 we delved into the topic of "Poland—a Global Value Chain Link.” We enjoyed introductions by the Co-Chairs of the AmCham Industry and Energy Committee - Ewa Mikos from Siemens, and Jerzy Kozicz from CMC Poland. They said that the manufacturing setor is facing many new challenges posed by new technological developments and the transition to the "green economy", of which the rising prices of energy in Poland seem to be an imminent threat to the competitiveness of the Polish economy. After that, our panelists - Andrzej Dycha, CEO, Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) ; Marek Żółtowski, Senior Regulatory Manager, BAT Poland; Piotr Lada, Director of Project Management, Hillwood Polska; Tomasz Bronny, Senior Plant Manager Snacks, PepsiCo; Krzysztof Czajka, MBA, Vice President for Sales, Grupa TAURON; and Paul Armstrong, COO, TSL - under the moderation of Mateusz Jurczyk, AmCham Kraków & Katowice Branch Director, discussed the the efficiency and competitiveness of our country’s manufacturing sector. Our panelists states that Poland remains an attractive destination for manufacturing investment, particularly in sectors such as white goods and high-tech, according to Piotr Łada, Hillwood Polska, and Andrzej Dycha, Paih, with over 140 major projects valued at EUR 14 billion in progress. However, the speakers noted that current regulatory and energy challenges—high energy costs, green transition policies, and lengthy permitting—require stronger collaboration between businesses and lawmakers. Krzystof Czajka, Tauron, noted that businesses must learn to "live in symbiosis" with the power generation system adding, that the number of companies that purchase energy through the auctioning system is on the rise. Marek Żółtowski, BAT Poland, emphasized the need for the government to ensure legislation supportive of industrial competitiveness amid changing global dynamics. Andrzej Dycha, Paih, stressed that Poland's industrial resilience is essential for navigating future economic crises. He also stated that "Poland has to remain a leader in industrial production," as “countries with strong industrial sectors are more resilient during global economic crises".
