  • North Devon+ appoints Clean Maritime and Green Energy Officer! 📢 🔹 Fiona Henderson has joined North Devon Plus, the business support partner for Torridge and North Devon Councils as the Clean Maritime and Green Energy Officer. 🔹 Fiona has already started working on impactful projects, including the development of the Appledore Clean Maritime Innovation Centre, which is set to emerge as a cornerstone of the South West's maritime potential and a leader in the pursuit of a sustainable green energy future, and the North Devon and Torridge Green Hydrogen Route Map, setting out the potential future supply and demand of green hydrogen in the area. 🔹 Fiona, originally from Devon, is excited to bring her extensive knowledge and expertise to the new role.   • Torridge Remembers - Armistice Day 2024 At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Torridge District Council Officers and Councillors came together at the Riverbank House flagpole to remember the fallen. Armistice Day has been observed across the nation every year since 1919. Traditionally, this day serves as a moment for the nation to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifices made by Armed Forces personnel over the years.   • Government Announces Continued Support for 'Levelling Up' Torridge in the Autumn Budget. Torridge District Council is pleased to announce that the Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Levelling Up Partnership with Torridge following the pause caused by the General Election and subsequent spending review. The Government's Autumn Budget released on Wednesday 30 October confirmed Torridge is still included in the Government funding plans for Levelling Up. The Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) will continue its partnership with the Council, allocating up to £20 million in funding for various projects throughout the district. The Place Board, established in February 2024, will continue to work with MHCLG Ministers and officials to ensure alignment with the new Government's mission-led approach.   • BIG Boat News ❗️⚓️ - Cargo ships are once again docking at Appledore, with three ships scheduled to arrive in October and November. 🔹 Onlookers witnessed the 'Rix Sail', a ninety-one-metre bulk cargo ship, arrive in Appledore on Friday 4th October, after sailing from Klaipeda, Lithuania. 🔹 The ship was carrying over 3,000 metric tons of animal feed pellets for Mole Valley Feed Solutions, destined for delivery to farms and their manufacturing sites in Devon. 🔹 The third vessel, MV Greetje, arrived on her maiden voyage with the same cargo on Friday 18th October.   • Holsworthy Leisure Centre receives over £1,000,000 in funding for energy efficiency improvements ❗📢 Holsworthy Leisure Centre has received over £1,000,000 in funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which provides grants for public sector bodies to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures. The money will be used to install new air to water heat pumps which will replace the existing oil boiler. The new heating system will not only help to significantly the costs associated with heating the building, swimming pool and hot water, but it will dramatically reduce carbon emissions.
