About us

Touch-type Read and Spell (TTRS) is a highly effective tool used to improve reading, writing and spelling ability in children, adolescent and adult learners. It is appropriate for all students, particularly those who struggle with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, ADD and ADHD. The course can be taken on a computer or an iPad and its success derives from the multi-sensory approach to teaching touch-typing through a series of structured lessons. Built-in feedback and progress reports keep learners motivated and the modular design helps them build self-esteem and confidence as they proceed at a pace that is right for them. Why TTRS is so effective: √ Incorporates structured word lists from the book 'Alpha to Omega' by Beve Hornsby - based on the works of Orton-Gillingham √ Uses a unique, multi-sensory, phonics based approach √ Supported by a substantial number of research papers and specialist articles √ Trusted in thousands of schools, homes and colleges √ Recommended by dyslexia associations worldwide TTRS has also been successfully used as an intervention and regular learning tool for English language learners and individuals with Down syndrome, visual impairments, autism spectrum disorder and communication difficulties resulting from a stroke. • Are you an educator who teaches students with dyslexia? While the effects of dyslexia are more visible where the processing of written language is concerned, it’s not uncommon for children with dyslexia to have trouble with sound sequencing, substitutions, and rhyming. Word recall may also be problematic. This "tip-of-the-tongue" phenomenon can lead to misspeaking and halted speech. It can also generally cause embarrassment and anxiety, which disrupts speech fluency and over time, may result in low confidence, and low self-esteem. • Many children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) struggle to express themselves in speaking and writing. Communication challenges can range from mild to severe: one child with autism may speak fluently with an impressive vocabulary and another might be completely nonverbal. But experiencing difficulties with speaking does not necessarily mean an autistic child cannot understand, process and use language to represent his or her thoughts, it may just be he or she doesn’t have the ability to express what’s inside. That’s why it can be useful to explore alternative forms of communication, such as typing. Learn more about how typing scan support autistic students in this article from Read and Spell: https://lnkd.in/gA64VMzA Looking for a typing program for your autistic learner? • What makes Touch-type Read and Spell different from other typing programs? It helps to strengthen a student's spelling and decoding skills as they learn how to type. It does this through a structured and sequential curriculum where words are grouped to teach English phonics and spelling patterns. Teacher and parent admins can view module descriptors but students just see the words in the module. There are no nonsense key combinations (jkjkjkjkjkk) and no distracting ads, so your child can work productively and independently. Not a TTRS user and interested in trying literacy-based typing for your learner? Leave "Free Trial" in the comments and we'll DM you a link for two weeks of free access!
