🚂 There's no rest for the TownRock Team! 🚂 After our successful trip to Offenburg last week, we're staying slightly closer to home this week with a trip to the SPE Aberdeen Geothermal 2025 conference today. 🍷 Sally Jack is first up, talking about our mine water geothermal heating schemes at Lanchester Wines. 💃 Then Leah Swan is presenting on "geothermal heat with every beat", our world-first BODYHEAT project at SWG3 in Glasgow. Catch us in person or online, and do let us have any feedback or questions.

About us
We are an award-winning geothermal company based in Edinburgh, Scotland and a leading specialist in all aspects of the UK’s geothermal resources. We help our clients to understand the facts about the low-carbon heating technologies available to them. The advice we provide is bespoke to your site, and is tailored to address your heating and cooling demand requirements, and help you meet your net-zero and sustainability targets. We specialise in the valuation, development and operation of net-zero heating and cooling projects using flooded coal mines, hot sedimentary aquifers (HSA’s), granites (Hot Dry Rocks), open and closed-loop ground-source heat pumps, district heating integration and thermal energy storage. Our mission is to access the abundant geothermal energy of the earth’s subsurface to provide zero-carbon renewable heating and cooling to industrial, commercial and domestic energy users. Geothermal energy technology is a relatively new path to unlocking clean energy in the UK and is often poorly appreciated or understood. Our small, dedicated team prides itself in taking a clear and strategic approach to assisting clients and partners to understand and realise the value of the geological asset beneath their site.

💜 We had a brilliant time last week at GeoTHERM expo & congress with Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International and the rest of #TeamScotland. 🔥 It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what Scotland has to offer in the world of #geothermal, and to meet with friends and clients old and new. 🥃 We were particularly please to meet, and share a dram with, Andre Baumann, State Secretary of the Baden-Württemberg energy and climate ministry, and discuss how to encourage closer collaborations on energy and climate issues. 👋 If you were there but didn't get a chance to say hello, drop us a message now, as we'd love to continue the conversations!

💙 Following on nicely from our love letter to Scottish Enterprise last week, this week we're off to Offenburg to take part in the #GeoTHERM expo and congress 🗺️ We'll be exhibiting along with the rest of the #Scotland team at stand number 247. And in true Scottish style, you can come and join us for a #whisky tasting! (Thursday 16.30-18.00) 🥃 Not only can you come for a dram or two, but you can also find out how the Scottish whisky industry is reducing its carbon emissions. Let us know if you'll be there, we'd love to catch up with as many people as possible during our visit.

💘 This valentines day, we've written a love letter to our favourite enterprise agency, Scottish Enterprise 💘 (ok, the timing is a coincidence, but the feeling is real!) Scottish Enterprise has been such a huge support to TownRock over the years that we wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on this, and share our experience of working with them, in the hope that it might encourage others to engage. There are so many support and funding opportunities available that there really is nothing to lose by checking it out. You can read all about our journey in this news article. And we'd love to hear your experience, or any questions you might have. ( 👏 Particularly thanks to Nora Ryder, Rachel McCaw, Richard Buxbaum, Susan McColl, David Balkind, Georgia Manson, Christopher Steven and countless others that we've worked with over the years! 👏 ) https://lnkd.in/ewnxTh7v

👏 Thank you WING UK for setting out so clearly what matters on this, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and every day! 👏 It's so important for women and girls to see themselves in this industry (and in science in general), and for the industry to benefit from the amazing minds, energy and enthusiasm out there. #WomenInSTEM #STEM #WomenInScience #geothermal #GirlsInSTEM #Equality
Empowering women in the geothermal community. We are the UK chapter of Women in Geothermal, keeping you updated on UK geothermal and our chapter activities
👩🔬🌍 Celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science 🌍👩🔬 Every year on February 11th, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, recognizing the invaluable contributions of women and girls to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (#STEM). This day serves as a powerful reminder of the need for gender equality in scientific disciplines and the importance of empowering the next generation of female scientists. 💡 Honouring Pioneers and Trailblazers Throughout history, women have played a critical role in shaping scientific progress. From #MarieCurie’s ground-breaking research in radioactivity to #KatherineJohnson’s essential calculations in space exploration, women have paved the way for innovation and discovery. Despite their remarkable contributions, women in STEM have often faced barriers to equal participation and recognition. 🚀 Inspiring the Next Generation Encouraging young girls to pursue careers in science is essential for fostering diverse perspectives and driving global progress. Providing mentorship, education, and opportunities for hands-on experience can help bridge the gender gap in STEM fields. Schools, universities, and organizations must continue to support and uplift aspiring female scientists. ⚖️ Taking Action for Equality To achieve true gender parity in science, we must work together to dismantle biases and promote inclusivity. Governments, institutions, and the private sector can play a crucial role by funding research opportunities for women, implementing policies that promote workplace equity, and ensuring that women have leadership roles in scientific communities. 🌟 A Call to Celebrate and Support On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, let’s celebrate the achievements of women in STEM, advocate for greater opportunities, and inspire young girls to dream big and pursue their passions in science. Together, we can create a future where science thrives through diversity and inclusivity. #WomenInScience #STEMforAll #EqualityInSTEM

🎙️So cool to hear our favourite Prof and our favourite radio DJ chatting all things geothermal on BBC 6 Music! Some great explanations of the geology of the earth by Zoe Shipton, using soup 🥣 , slinkies and scuba diving 🤿 as examples. ♨️ And a shout-out for our mine-water heating system at Lanchester Wines in Gateshead (thanks Zoe!) 🎚️ Give it a listen (2hrs, 4mins in)
Prof Zoe Shipton, Co-Lead for our Decarbonising Heat theme, was on BBC Radio 6 with Cerys Matthews last week! 🌟 Listen to the full interview (from 2 hours in) to take a deep dive into geothermal energy and explore what’s happening beneath our feet 👉 https://lnkd.in/eq3bgRTa #NetZeroScotland #StrongerTogether #GeothermalEnergy #GreenHeat Scottish Funding Council Mette High Gayle Erwin Jennifer Dickie Sean Field Andrew Sudmant Faye Wade Sarah Parry Millie Mather

Thanks Bye Bye Plastic Foundation for helping us to shout about the power of dancing! 🕺 🎛️
Raves just got a whole lot cooler (and warmer) thanks to David Townsend , founder of TownRock Energy! 🔥 Using the power of body heat from dancers, David and his team have revolutionised club sustainability with their groundbreaking Bodyheat system. At iconic venues like SWG3 in Glasgow, the energy from a packed dance floor is captured and stored underground, ready to be reused later for heating. 🕺 💡 Did you know? A concert with 1,200 ravers can produce 800 kilowatt-hours of heat—enough to heat 70 houses! 🏡 Heating accounts for half of the world's energy consumption, but systems like this are changing the game. This is more than just dancing—it's sustainable innovation that turns our moves into renewable energy. 🌱🎶 Cheers to David and the team for proving that every rave can leave a lighter footprint! 🪩♻️ 🎥: 60secdocs
