Innovation for transitions requires a different approach - one that can conceive beyond the limits of the individual firm and drive for collective action. So it was a great pleasure to work with the Royal Society of Chemistry to put these warm words to the test and I am happy to share a perspective article on 'Mission-Oriented Innovation for Sustainable Polymers in Liquid Formulations (PLFs)' authored by Professor Anju Massey Brooker and myself and published in the Royal Society's Philosophical Transaction as one contribution of 12 papers from the ‘Green carbon for the chemical industry of the future' conference. https://lnkd.in/gAya8Vf3 This article presents a summary of the cross-sectoral Mission Labs we carried out with the Royal Society of Chemistry and its industry task force which were designed to building system-wide innovation ecosystems and explore common-good scenarios to de-fossilise the PLFs leading to the development of 'Sustainable PLFs that are Benign by Design'. I learned so much from this process and am forever grateful for the opportunity to dive really deep into how to rethink norms around open innovation in order to support firms to make the challenging shifts needed for green transitions.
