Our dynamic duo Murven Wan and Daniel Renton had the privilege of visiting the Beinn an Tuirc 1 wind farm in Argyll & Bute, Scotland. During this visit, they installed two SquareBug® torque monitoring systems to measure torque transients during wind turbine operation. Capturing mechanical torque transients (especially torque reversals) requires specialised wireless instrumentation, assisted by deploying our SquareBug® technology. Torque reversals can significantly reduce the lifespan of wind turbine transmission systems - especially bearings and, consequently gears - ultimately shortening the overall design life of wind turbines. Profiling wind turbine input torque histogram is mandatory to establish confidence in any type testing.
