𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗮 ‘𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁’ 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? Don't worry - our 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗲 name verification check provides you with confidence that every payment is going to the right place 🙏 When you add a new payee, we’ll check the name you’ve given us against the name on the actual account (provided by the institution the account is with), to identify whether the details are correct ✅ We’ll let you know whether the name is an exact match, a close match, or not a match at all, and even some extra bits of information like whether the payee has recently switched to a new account or whether the account is registered as a business or personal account. We’ll make it easy for you to quickly correct any mistakes and make an informed decision about whether to continue with the payment 🙌 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? • We all make mistakes - this new Confirmation of Payee check will make sure that any typos are picked up before you part ways with your money. • Scams and fraud relating to authorised payments are also on the rise – this check will help you spot whether someone asking you to send them money isn’t who they say they are 🔒 At Tred, we’re not just about making your money green, we’re also about giving you the tools you need to make your day-to-day finances a breeze 🍃 Want to hear more about Tred’s business current account? Is email marketing killing the planet? 🏭 Last week, Tred got this email reply to one of our marketing emails 📨 “Please don’t send these emails as it cost energy and uses carbon. You are burning up the earth’s resources for no benefit at all - think first!” What is your initial reaction to this? We always appreciate feedback but like with many sustainability problems, we think the reality is more nuanced 🤔 Let’s unpack this 🔍 According to Mike Berners-Lee, author of ‘How Bad Are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything,’ the average business user generates around 135kg of CO2e per year from emails. That’s roughly equivalent to driving 200 miles in a family car 🚗 But, the carbon impact of an email varies on a couple of things. An email caught in a spam filter emits just 0.03g, a regular email 4g, and an email with a large attachment can emit up to 50g. Even the device used to open it, whether phone or laptop, can make a difference. It’s clear that every aspect of our digital life has an impact, and digital communications are a part of that. But for many businesses, they pale in comparison to the environmental cost of the money in their current account 💰 Here’s a staggering stat: A business with £100k in a traditional current account like HSBC could be indirectly responsible for emitting 21,700kg of CO2e per year, the equivalent of 5.425 million regular emails. And this is just from where the money sits. Our green business current accounts offer businesses the opportunity to stop their money funding fossil fuels, drastically cutting the carbon footprint tied to their finances. 🌳 Which means that every email we send is an opportunity for someone to reduce their emissions by tonnes yearly, and help make money work for the planet, not against it. Balancing the small, immediate environmental costs with the potential for significant, long-term reductions is something every green business faces ⚖️ But in this case, we don’t think it’s time to scrap our digital marketing strategies. Just as the responder, was able to express their opinion on an environmental issue to us via email, we believe we think that digital communications remain the most climate-friendly way to spread awareness about important issues, and we think the environmental impact of money is something worth raising awareness of. That said, there are steps that we can and should take to minimise digital waste, such as: - Simplifying emails by reducing images - Encourage people to unsubscribe from mailing lists they aren’t interested in - Sharing links instead of large attachments - Focus on sending emails that are relevant and engaging, to the people the product is right for What are your thoughts on this discussion? Let us know in the comments.
