It’s been a busy end-of-year period here at SheCanEngineer! We've been wrapping up a year of activities and events, which is why we've been a little quiet on LinkedIn lately but stay tuned to see lots more from us in 2025! Before our volunteers take a well deserved break, we wanted to share more about last month's event at Imperial College London. We hosted an AMA (Ask Me Anything!) evening in collaboration with the Women in SET and Design Engineering Societies to give engineering students a chance to ask questions which ranged from "how do I stay up to date with technical innovations?" to "how do I find out about the culture of a company and how they treat women before joining?" The event was filled with insightful discussions, both during the panel and at the networking afterwards, and our speakers provided valuable answers to the wide range of questions asked (stay tuned for more on this from us in the new year!). It was an incredible opportunity to learn more about the real-life experiences of engineers and explore both the challenges and rewards of the profession. A massive thank you to our sponsors and inspirational speakers for making this event possible: 💡 Trigon Fire Safety 💡 STEMAZING 💡 Frazer-Nash Consultancy 🌟 Sally Hall 🌟 Dr. Shini Somara 🌟 Alexandra Knight 🌟 Irene de Lezcano-Mujica Gonzalez Together, we’re building a more inclusive and informed future for engineering! #EngineeringCommunity #DiversityInSTEM #SheCanEngineer SheCanEngineer Committee

We hope you enjoyed the webinar about BS 9991: 2024. You can download the full presentation. BS 9991:2024 Fire safety in the design, management and use of residential buildings has been released by the British Standards Institute at the end of November 2024. The revised code of practice came into effect on the 30 November 2024 and provides a risk-based alternative to Approved Document B, as a means of satisfying the functional requirements of Part B to the Building Regulations related to fire safety. The key highlights includes: - The revised height limit for the installation of sprinklers and single stair buildings; - Recommendations for evacuation lifts and greater emphasis on inclusive design; - The revised scope of the code of practice; - Revised common corridor smoke control provisions; - A new section on care homes; etc. Please get in touch if you like to join future webinar events: info@trigonfire.com Trigon Fire Safety Adam Eaton James Lavender David Bostelmann Karl Wallasch #BS9991 #FireEngineering #FireSafety #FreeCPD #WeAreTrigon

Thank you for joining today’s BS 9991: 2024 webinar. We hope it was interesting and informative. This new guidance for fire safety design, management and use of residential buildings has significantly changed from previous versions (2011 and 2015). Our own Adam Eaton presented an overview of fire safety legislation and guidance in the UK, the structure and updates to BS 9991. This was followed by an Q&A session. If you have missed the event and if you would like to hear more about the new BS 9991:2024, please get in touch. Also, if you would like to join future webinars by Team Trigon Fire Safety, please email: info@trigonfire.com Adam Eaton: "It was fantastic to be able to engage with so many of our clients, colleagues, and collaborators, during today’s BS9991:2024 webinar. The range of thought-provoking questions during the Q&A session, shows just how eagerly anticipated the updated guidance has been for our fellow built environment professionals. I look forward to implementing the latest guidance on our upcoming projects." Christian Fink / Squire & Partners: "Thank you Trigon for running today’s CPD regarding the new BS 9991. We always find our sessions with Trigon enriching, and today was no exception. This highly important subject is complex and impacts our day to day work designing safe environments, but Adam and Karl succeeded in providing a great summary which was interesting, precise and very informative." #Firesafety #Firesafetyguidance #BS9991 #RiskBasedApproach #Evacuation #FireEngineering #FireSafetyCPD #FireWebinar

Fire safety in occupied workplaces considers life safety of those working and maintaining the space or building. The life safety of firefighters, protection of property and assets as well as brand protection is an important consideration. Successfully managed in-use buildings start at inception as fire safety concepts and are developed throughout the detailed design phase and construction, to ultimately be occupied. Once occupied, the fire safety management of the space consists of fire risk assessment, maintenance, staff training. Team Trigon Fire Safety is regularly involved in the design, construction and operation of workplaces, prioritizing fire safety, carefully choosing the right measures to assist clients in creating and maintaining safe environments for their staff and employees, that they can easily and consistently manage. In addition to fire safety strategy developments for workplaces, our team regularly carries out Fire Risk Assessments to meet the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and prepares Fire Safety Management plans. #workplace #office #safeworkingenvironment #occupiedspaces #inusebuildings #FireRiskAssessment #RRO #firesafety #fireengineering #performancebaseddesign #builtenvironment #innovation #people #solutions #service #WeAreTrigon

Fire safety concepts for retail shops, restaurants and shopping malls need to consider a number of unique challenges: retail spaces include in addition to staff a large number of customers who are unfamiliar with the space, spaces may be large and include a variety of different fire risks and fire loads. Retail spaces also need to be designed with high degree of flexibility in an ever changing environment and allow for different possible future uses. Team Trigon Fire Safety has experience in the design of small bespoke individual retail units up to large existing or new shopping centers, advising on fire safety considering means of escape, internal fire and smoke spread, access and facilities for firefighters, property, brand and business protection for a number of retail business and retail building owners. David Bostelmann says: "In new retail design, we see a bigger emphasis on customer experience and a ‘blurring of boundaries’, where retail spaces are becoming more integrated with other uses (such as dining, entertainment and other destination-based uses). Trigon’s agile approach and high-quality service, allows us to understand the client’s needs and develop fire strategies that recognise and can support the more unique experiences that attract and retain retail customers. Trigons credentials of supporting sustainable and efficient buildings put us in great standing to support retail design teams. We enjoy and have vast experience working in all areas of the retail sector, be it a standalone small store to very large shopping centres.” #retail #shop #shoppingcentre #store #market #outlet #sales #brands #shoppingexperience #retailevents #firesafety #fireengineering #performancebaseddesign #builtenvironment #innovation #people #solutions #service #WeAreTrigon
