Sharing a few of my thoughts post election with Sarah Butcher at eFinancialCareers on what a Trump presidency could mean for sustainable finance jobs beyond the context of a retrenchment in ESG over the past year. For what its worth, and if discussions with clients are anything to go by, the 'political backlash' has been largely overbaked...most businesses have assessed and implemented workarounds accordingly. Recalibration in the industry for ESG jobs has primarily been a victim to broader regional cost cutting within public markets alongside sustainability objective overreach, a phase more than a trend, onwards and forwards.

Executive Search for Sustainability, Decarbonisation & Climate Investing across Private Markets

An uncharacteristically personal post for me, but something deeply important at the same time. A year ago, I took part in a video focused on the ubiquity of addiction in our society called 'Everybody Knows Somebody' created on behalf of the charity Taking Action on Addiction, part of The Forward Trust. I spoke about my experience dealing with addiction in my family, a highly destabilising period in my life, and one with far reaching consequences for others too, for anyone going through something similar, I am always happy to talk. On Wednesday this week, I was invited to attend the Houses of Parliament to watch a screening of the video at a breakfast reception hosted by the MP for Liverpool Walton, Dan Carden and the CEO for The Forward Trust, MIKE TRACE. We also heard from two incredible people in the video, one man who discussed their personal journey with recovery, and another lady who very sadly lost their son to drug addiction, both stories were heart-breaking and inspiring all at the same time. I actually took a few photos on the day, including some of me at the event that I had intended to post, proud that I'd been invited to Parliament, but writing this now, posting these just felt a little narcissistic (even for LinkedIn), so I hope instead that people reading this will watch the feature video below and allow those who took part to tell their story. The full video can be watched here https://lnkd.in/eqQddrib. There is a huge amount of stigma around addiction, and watching a parent go through it was incredibly hard, but with Addiction Awareness Week coming up soon, I wanted to bring attention to this amazing charity, the incredible work they do and to thank them for providing the space to discuss something that I hope could help others, it was a uniquely cathartic experience and one I will never forget. #AAW24 #EverybodyKnowsSomebody #AddictionAwarenessWeek2024 #Alcoholism #RecoveryIsPossible Fiona McDonald Kelly Brooks

I was genuinely terrified about launching the Leading Sustainability Podcast, the first careers focused podcast for sustainability and impact...was there a reason why nobody had bothered to do it before and was there an audience who wanted to learn about the peaks and troughs of leaders in this sector? While putting my voice (which I still find annoying) out there into the often highly judgemental world of LinkedIn has been nerve shredding, it pales in comparison to the immense gratitude I have towards the guests so far who took a leap into the unknown and told their own story. Against the back drop of my core job at TWS Search Partners - Sustainability Recruitment of identifying and recruiting future leaders into the sustainable and impact investing market, this has been a hugely gratifying project for me and I continue to learn a lot. We are still at an early stage of the podcast, so it is incredibly humbling that we have had over 1500 downloads across 171 cities in 29 countries since our launch, and I would just ask that if you are able to help spread the word by sharing this post, subscribing to the podcast or even writing a review, you would be making a huge difference to draw more and more fantastic guests.
