🎧 Introducing CPI’s new podcast 🎧 People in Innovation: A CPI podcast tells the extraordinary stories of the people behind the innovations that are shaping our future. In our pilot episode, we’re starting at the very beginning, 20 years ago, when an idea became a reality and CPI was born ✨ We started with two people, one desk in the North East of England, and a clear vision for a better future. Nigel Perry MBE FREng, our former CEO and current board member, was one of those two people there on day 1. He sat down with our current CEO, Frank Millar, at The Catalyst to revisit those early days, tell the story of how CPI came to be, and reminisce over an incredible 20 years. Subscribe and listen to the full episode on your favourite streaming platform ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ezFMRQGu Watch it here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eh2gmP4J This is just the beginning for People in Innovation – stay tuned for more inspiring stories every Thursday for the next three weeks. The race to commercialise cell-based meat is heating up— both Australia and the UK are making great strides in this global race, but what will it take to scale from lab to table? 🍽️ Cultivated meat has the potential to transform global food systems, reducing environmental impact and enhancing food security. But before it can become a viable alternative, the industry must overcome major barriers in cost, scalability, and regulation. Vijay K., Senior Scientist in Cultivated Meat, recently explored the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of this groundbreaking industry, in an opinion piece for The Cell Base. CPI is at the forefront of this race, providing the expertise and infrastructure needed to bridge the gap between research and real-world production by supporting innovators in: 🔬 Developing scalable bioprocesses to drive down production costs. ⚙️ Advancing characterisation and quality control to meet regulatory standards. 🥩 Accelerating commercial readiness to bring cultivated meat to market faster. The global challenge is clear: how do we move cultivated meat from promise to plate—and ensure the UK stays ahead? NEWS | CPI and Owen Mumford join forces to help the NHS reach its net-zero target 🌱🏥 We’re excited to announce ReSCiD, a new project between CPI, Owen Mumford, and other industry leaders, to accelerate the development of more sustainable medical injection devices, supporting the NHS in its mission to achieve net zero by 2045. Around 2.5 billion of these devices are manufactured globally every year, and the vast majority are used once and then sent to landfill or for incineration. The project, funded by Innovate UK, aims to build a circular economy model for these devices, by developing processes for their return, disassembly, decontamination, and re-manufacture to enable their reintegration into the supply chain. At CPI, we’re applying our expertise in sustainable materials, advanced manufacturing, and innovation support to achieve a more sustainable and efficient healthcare system for all. We're currently looking for partners who would like to join our consortium to shape the future of sustainable medical devices. 4basebio is transforming DNA delivery for next-generation therapies 🧬⬇️ High-quality DNA is in demand for gene therapies and vaccines to treat cancer and many other rare and devastating diseases. It’s also the starting point for mRNA vaccines, such as those used to protect people against COVID-19. Conventional DNA manufacture involves inserting the required gene into a bacterial plasmid, but this introduces safety issues. 4basebio has developed a revolutionary non-viral DNA platform that enables precise, scalable, and safer genetic modification—opening new possibilities across biotech, vaccine development, and advanced therapies. Unlike viral vectors, this synthetic DNA system reduces safety risks and manufacturing challenges, making it a promising alternative for therapeutic development. With CPI’s expertise and support, 4basebio has: 🔬 Optimised DNA manufacturing for high purity and scalability. ⚙️ Developed advanced characterisation techniques to ensure quality and consistency. 🛠️ Demonstrated manufacturability to accelerate commercial translation. By overcoming key barriers to genetic delivery, 4basebio is enabling the next wave of biopharmaceutical innovation.
