  • 📢 Children growing up in our country deserve the best start in life, nothing less. We're investing in early years education by making childcare accessible and affordable for families, making sure parents aren’t priced out and spreading best practice to start learning. Find out how children at Haltwhistle Academy nursery are getting ready for school ⬇️

  • Giving every child the best start in life is my top priority as Education Secretary, central to the government’s Plan for Change mission. 💰 Investment in the early years Despite having to take tough decisions at the Budget, we protected key education priorities with a £2 billion increase to early years funding in 2025 and 2026, and we’ll be delivering a further £75 million to expand government-funded childcare in September. We’re publishing full details for LAs so that providers – including childminders – have funding confirmed as soon as possible. 🔍 Transparency on charges Parents deserve to know exactly what’s being covered through government childcare support. We’re updating our guidance so additional charges for items such as nappies, wipes and lunch are always voluntary, so no families are priced out of the childcare they need. 🧮 High-quality programmes Our Plan for Change will get tens of thousands more children each year school-ready, so they can hit key targets on personal, social and physical development as well as communication, literacy and maths. We’ll do this, in part, through the Stronger Practice Hubs programme, which is receiving further funding to support settings to drive up standards of early years education. 800 early years settings will also begin training for a Maths Champions programme to boost early maths support for children this month. 👣 An important next step We are pressing ahead with an early years system that is accessible for parents, sustainable for providers, and better serves children’s development. 🚸 Find out if your family is eligible for childcare support: childcarechoices.gov.uk ➗ Sign up to benefit from the Maths Champions programme: https://lnkd.in/eWZpa-wq
