About us
We boost UK prosperity, understand the Universe, and protect our planet and outer space. The UK Space Agency plays a major role in delivering the government’s National Space Strategy. We nurture a thriving space ecosystem – a network of investors, scientists, engineers, integrators, academia, and research labs – and a sector that generates an annual income of £17.5 billion and employs nearly 50,000 people across the country. Our staff include scientists, engineers, commercial experts, project managers and policy officials who: - catalyse investment to advance space-based technology and maximise UK space sector growth - deliver missions and capabilities that responsibly meet national needs and advance our understanding of the Universe - champion the power of space to inspire people, offer greener, smarter solutions and support a sustainable future To achieve the greatest impact in these three areas, we focus most of our resource behind eight delivery Priorities. These are: - launch: supporting satellite launch services from UK spaceports - sustainability: taking a leading role in keeping space safe and accessible now and in the future - discovery: supporting space science and exploration missions - innovation: investing in bold new technologies - levelling-up: boosting space investment and jobs across the country - Earth observation: studying our planet to drive discovery and tackle climate change - low-Earth orbit: delivering vital everyday satellite services - inspiration: inspiring new space customers, investors and the next generation

£10 million investment in new facilities at UK ATC New lab spaces will be built to assemble the optical benches required for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. To meet mission deadlines European Space Agency - ESA is supporting the construction of the new lab and clean rooms. This £10 million ESA contract will double UK ATC’s construction capabilities, and build on existing support from the UK Space Agency and its membership of ESA. LISA is ESA's next flagship project and will be the first ever gravitational wave observatory in space. The optical benches are a crucial component of this complex mission. Ewan Fitzsimons, UK Principal Investigator for LISA at UK ATC, said: “This investment in labs and staff will enable us to meet the exacting standards required for this groundbreaking project. It not only enhances our technical capabilities but also underscores the critical role of precision engineering in complex space missions such as LISA." The UK is a world leader in using Earth Observation data to study our planet, with over half of the variables needed to monitor and understand climate change only available from space. 🌍 Congratulations to Telespazio UK who have been awarded a European Space Agency - ESA contract to continue delivering cutting-edge calibration and validation techniques to process the increasing amount of vital data that satellites return to Earth. 🛰️
Telespazio UK has been awarded the framework contract for Quality Assurance for Earth Observation - 2 (#QA4EO2) by the European Space Agency - ESA. The contract will see Telespazio UK continue managing quality control operations and undertaking research and development into cutting-edge calibration and validation techniques used to ratify the vast quantities of mission data returned from Earth Observation satellites. Delivered over the next five years, the project will be delivered on and off site from the ESA’s ESRIN site in Frascati, Italy. Telespazio UK will work with a pan-European team of industrial and scientific partners including Serco, UCL, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), EOSense, and the Finnish Meteorological Institute - Ilmatieteen laitos. https://lnkd.in/er9-7mmr

Fantastic news as UK company Magdrive - based on Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire - secure an impressive seed funding round to further develop their innovative thruster technology. 🚀👏 We supported Magdrive's groundbreaking work with £1 million last year, helping catalyse private investment, and boosting space as a key driver of UK prosperity 👉 https://lnkd.in/ex3KfDT5
We're announcing a major milestone for Magdrive today, we've raised $10.5M to continue to develop our next generation plasma thrusters for LEO and satellites today, deepspace and beyond tommorow. With our first in-orbit demonstration of the Magdrive Rogue in June, with our new manufacturing facility soon to be up and running, and our expansion to the US, we have more momentum than ever before. Our deepest thanks goes out to redalpine, Balerion Space Ventures, Founders Fund, Alumni Ventures, 7percent Ventures, Outsized Ventures, and Entrepreneur First for supporting our vision. Individuals also need a special thanks, including Harald Nieder, Inna Thalmann, PhD , Phil Scully, Daniel W. Daniel Kleinmann, Delian Asparouhov, Mason Hale, Andrew J Scott, Jeff Crusey, Lomax Ward, and James Lesser at NewSpace Finance.
