I always slightly cringe when sharing anything I'm featured in, but it was a real pleasure to talk to Tom Morley for the UKSG podcast 'Knowing Me, Knowing #UKSG'* about my career and current role as Head of Publishing at University of London Press. As someone who works closely with academic and local societies, the challenges facing these dedicated organisations are growing. If you want to understand more about what societies are facing when it comes to getting their publications out there, have a peruse of the slides or the recording from the Society Publishing webinar organised by UKSG last month. Lots of useful insights from Rob Johnson & Helen Dobson & Shehnaz Ahmed - my 3 key takeaways though would be: ·      The financial struggle is real - declining revenues, difficulties transitioning to OA models, the need to adapt to new publishing approaches that come with a cost - all contribute to this. ·      Societies do so much more than 'just' publishing - broader contributions around community engagement, support for early-career researchers, and disciplinary development are absolutely key and must be recognised. ·      There's a growing need for a diverse range of sustainable and equitable models for societies to engage with to ensure a longevity of content dissemination.

Really looking forward to this year’s UKSG conference, partly because it’s in one of my favourites cities, but mainly because I’ll be talking about my own experience with ADHD in the plenary session ‘Empowering Neurodivergent Staff, Learners and Researchers: The Library as a Partner in Success’, alongside Joanne Fitzpatrick and Andrew Walsh
