Hoteliers: just imagine this for a second... It's no secret that energy costs are crippling the hospitality industry. After staffing costs, energy is the biggest expense in the game. A hotel with 100 rooms can rack up to £200,000 per year in energy costs, with heating costs making up to 75% of the bill. As it happens, we're ALL leaving our fridge doors wide open... sort of... Put it this way: if you've got the air conditioning on but your blinds wide open on a sunny day, your HVAC system is working overtime to counteract the effects of overheating, fighting an invisible battle with solar gain to keep the office space at a comfortable level. This applies in the colder months too, as the low winter sun can still overheat heavily glazed areas, just as the summer sun does.
