This year marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. VE Day 80 is intended as a global celebration of peace, reconciliation, and the enduring spirit of unity. UDSS is proud to pay special commemoration to the crew of 103 Squadron bomber Avro Lancaster ND861 via a national competition to design a fitting memorial to the six airmen who tragically lost their lives when a routine training mission went awry early in 1945. They would never see the end of the war in which they fought so resiliently and selflessly. From street parties to Beacons of Peace lighting the night sky, this year’s commemorations aim to be the largest since Winston Churchill announced victory in Europe.
