🎅 Day 4 of our 12 days of UUKi Christmas 🎅 International students bring numerous benefits to the UK. This year, we shone a spotlight on their contributions with our report, ‘Powering the engine: The non-financial contribution of international postgraduate students to the UK’. Developed in partnership with Counterculture Partnership LLP and Public First, this report provides both quantitative and qualitative evidence on the makeup of international postgraduate research (PGR) students and their contribution to the UK’s research base. 🔬 Our research shows that international PGR students are crucial to the success of the UK’s R&D ecosystem: 🔹 They provide skills that make PhD programmes a success. 🔹 They contribute directly to the research base as collaborators and researchers. 🔹 They project the UK’s soft power across the globe. 🔹 They directly support the UK’s wider ambitions to be a global science superpower through their research outputs, exchanges and skills. We’re engaging with UK Research and Innovation, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and other key stakeholders to discuss next steps and how the sector takes these recommendations forward. 🎄 Day 3 of 12 days of UUKi Christmas! 🎄 As we continue celebrating all we’ve achieved as a sector this year in our #12DaysOfUUKiChristmas series, today we’re looking back at the International Higher Education Forum (IHEF) 2024 – our most successful IHEF yet! 🎉 In May, we welcomed over 300 delegates from the UK, USA, South Africa, Europe, and Canada to the University of London for 2 days of insightful discussion and debate on the latest challenges and opportunities in international higher education. 🌍🎓 This event featured: ✅ 72 inspiring speakers ✅ 12 specialist sessions ✅ 11 exhibitors ✅ A ministerial address from Lord Offord of Garvel CVO, who served as Minister for Exports at the time Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the success of IHEF 2024 – your collaboration drives our sector forward. Day 2 of our 12 days of UUKi Christmas! 🎄 Earlier this year, we launched the second phase of our #WeAreInternational Transforming Lives campaign. Partnering with a new cohort of universities, we worked together to tell the stories of 10 international students and graduates and their contributions to our campuses and communities in the UK. 🎥 💡 Did you know? In our paid social media polling, 52% of prospective international students felt the UK seemed like a more welcoming study destination after viewing content from this year’s phase of the campaign. What’s more, since the relaunch in May 2023, more than 100 universities have joined us in celebrating the value of international students through the campaign. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported #WeAreInternational this year! 🎊 📣 In the new year, we look forward to continuing to amplify the value and contributions of international students to the UK. Join us as we celebrate 12 days of UUKi Christmas! 🎄📅 2024 began on a momentous note with the UK rejoining Horizon Europe on 1 January. This was a landmark moment for research collaboration, enabling our researchers and universities to play a full role in achieving the shared research ambitions of the UK and the EU. 🇪🇺 In October, we began our series of UUKi-led Horizon Europe delegations to strengthen ties with European partners and boost the UK’s participation in Horizon Europe.
