The first cohort of graduates from the world's first Masters in Reparatory Justice programme have graduated in Glasgow. This double-degree programme is a collaboration between the University of Glasgow and The University of the West Indies through their joint Glasgow-Caribbean Centre for Development Research (GCCDR). Students from both institutions earned double degrees, studying slavery, colonialism & human rights to lead global reparations discourse.

We've got a bit of a niche #ThrowbackThursday today: 500 Great Western Rd! Great Western Road was built in 1836 to accommodate the expansion of the city into what we now know as the #WestEnd! It's long been home to popular haunts like the Botanic Gardens and the establishments of 500 GWR. For decades the building has housed a form of pub downstairs and a nightclub upstairs. During the 80s and 90s, the building housed the iconic #Glasgow nightclub Cleopatra's (Clatty Patts), The Glasgow Times recalled the venue's dedication to the Egyptian theme, and its famous camel. Our Queen Margaret Union has been making noise since 1890! Established to provide a social space for female students, the QMU's first home was in the basement of Queen Margaret College ♀️ The union provided a space for female students to relax and get involved in running the union for 90 years, before opening to all students in 1979. The QMU has had many homes over the years, moving from a basement on Queen Margaret Drive to different houses including Number 1 University Gardens and in 1935 the MacIntyre building. In 1969 Queen Margaret Union made its final move to the then newly constructed 22 University Gardens. Today the #QMU is home to student bars, a games room, a restaurant and even a photo booth 📸 The union is also an iconic music venue, welcoming acts like Queen, Nirvana and Charlie XCX 🎸🎤 🎶 #studentlife #uni #uofglasgow #livemusic
Congrats to Engineering graduate Lisa Chestnutt, who has received this year’s Prince Philip Prize from Hammermen of Glasgow in recognition of her outstanding work in biomedical engineering! 🔬 Her final-year project involved the development of a digital simulation tool to test a novel stent that has been designed to support the surgically-altered blood vessels of children with specific severe cardiovascular defects.
