About us
DEEP is an international research and development organisation engineering new technologies which will improve understanding and preservation of the planet’s deep water environments. Our mission is to imagine and invent amazing things that empower our species to sustainably explore, live, work, and thrive underwater. By changing the way humans can interact with the oceans, we will revolutionise humanity’s ability to understand and protect them. Over 80% of our planet’s oceans remain almost completely unknown, unobserved, and unexplored. Yet marine ecosystems hold undiscovered solutions to many of the greatest problems facing humanity - including climate change, biodiversity loss and human health. DEEP is an expert team of highly experienced engineers, operations, and safety experts. We will drive progress in deep sea innovation and discovery in order to become stewards of the oceans and reshape our relationship with our planet.

As the name ‘Vanguard’ implies, our pilot subsea human habitat is the pathfinder on our mission to make humans aquatic. Hear more about the project from Ethan Butler, Chief Development Officer at DEEP. #DEEP #ProjectVanguard #MakeHumansAquatic

The milestone we’re most excited about this year is putting our first subsea human habitat in the water. Project Vanguard is our pilot habitat design and we can't wait to see people living in it, diving from it and interacting with it, so we can make the next habitat even better. But first, there's testing to do – and lots of it. Our latest blog shares how we plan to take Vanguard from the drawing board to the ocean: https://bit.ly/4k2cvIF #DEEP #ProjectVanguard #UnderwaterHabitat

Watch the FLIP mini documentary now! Our friends at OceanX have captured the fascinating story of FLIP so far: https://lnkd.in/eYuSjxaT #DEEP #OceanX #FLIP
RP FLIP is a one-of-a-kind research platform that can flip itself vertically in the middle of the ocean. Nearly retired for good in 2023, it was saved by the team at DEEP, who have big plans to transform it into a next-generation ocean research platform. But first, they must get it from Mexico to France—possibly flipping it one last time before its makeover. Join the OceanX team as we uncover the incredible engineering behind RP FLIP and follow its journey to Europe for its next chapter in ocean exploration! DEEP Manufacturing leading the way in subsea supply chain advancements!
We had a fantastic time hosting an industry briefing at Subsea Expo yesterday! It was great to see 20 clients from the subsea sector join Peter Richards, Louise S., and Harry T. for an open and pragmatic discussion on the future of subsea manufacturing and technology adoption. We covered key topics such as: ✔️ Blockers to innovation. ✔️ Building confidence in new technology. ✔️ Key triggers that drive innovation. Stay tuned for the whitepaper we’ll be sharing in the coming weeks! #DEEPManufacturing #Manufacturing #SubseaExpo

There’s enough salt in the ocean to cover the whole surface of the land on Earth. And it wouldn’t just cover it, it would form a layer more than 500 feet (166 meters) thick. Find out why the ocean is so salty here: https://on.doi.gov/3WZCeYl #DEEP #Ocean #Salt

We’re delighted to announce that DEEP Manufacturing has been awarded DNV approval in principle for use of Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) in the production of steel pressure vessels for human occupancy. This is a huge milestone on our journey to putting human habitats in the ocean. Pressure vessels are the structures within which people will live on our subsea habitats and it’s imperative that our production processes are rigorously reviewed and tested. We can’t think of anyone better to do that than the world’s leading classification society and recognized advisor to the maritime industry. We’re the only company in Europe with this approval in principle and we’re already in the process of working towards final DNV approval for the production of steel pressure vessels.
