We invite you to join us for Professor Liliana De Lillo's webinar - 'Removing technological barriers to accelerate a sustainable multi-sector electrification' Date: Wednesday 19 March 2025 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM In this talk, we’ll explore how tackling technological challenges can help us achieve a future of more sustainable electricity, more efficient industrial and transport systems, and lower CO2 emissions. By taking a multi-disciplinary approach, this research focuses on integrating advanced motor drives, which are key to improving energy efficiency, reducing weight, and cutting environmental impacts. We’ll dive into innovative solutions that not only reduce energy waste but also minimize the materials used during manufacturing. This includes designing electrical systems that are more efficient and have better power-to-weight ratios, making them lighter and reduce material wastage. Additionally, we'll look at how to make these systems easier to recycle at the end of their life, increasing their overall lifespan and reducing waste. BOOK YOUR PLACE - https://lnkd.in/es3j_JWd

Greenpeace’s report argues that European-backed renewable and lower-carbon projects producing energy for export are hampering the two countries’ ability to decarbonise their own economies, displacing local populations and consuming millions of litres of fresh water, in some cases in environments where it was already scarce. At the same time, both Egypt and Morocco also remain net importers of fossil fuel energy, buying in large quantities of oil and gas to fuel their own economies, while selling their cleaner energy to Europe, according to the report. https://lnkd.in/ePT_yHnY

From Pot Holes to Bio-Based Roads, University of Nottingham is paving the way for a sustainable future. The roads we travel on today are built with fossil fuel-derived bitumen—but what if we could replace it with bio-based, sustainable alternatives? Researchers from University of Nottingham's NTEC - Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre, led by Professor Gordon Airey, Dr Anand Sreeram, and Yongping Hu, in collaboration with Professor Abir Al-Tabbaa from the University of Cambridge, are leading the shift toward eco-friendly road paving materials. Their latest research demonstrates how bio-additives can enhance the durability and performance of bitumen, reducing cracking, improving fatigue resistance, and lowering environmental impact. This breakthrough supports net zero targets and helps bridge the gap between technical innovation and environmental sustainability. As Professor Gordon Airey stated, "The transition to sustainable alternatives for traditional bitumen is imminent." Transitioning to sustainable road materials isn't just necessary—it's happening now.
